Both of the contests I won were with entries that I thought were pretty damn funny. So that theory goes down the crapper.

And I want to mention the sport of real men: Hurling. No, it's not a game where the players spew on each other, it's sort of like the Irish version of street hockey, where various parts of your opponents' bodies are considered pucks. It's usually played by vaguely humanlike things lured down out of the hills with a promise of raw meat and a sheep to cuddle.

Both the popular football codes in Australia are rougher than American football, and both are played without padding and helmets. Well, sometimes rugby players wear light shoulder padding, but it is not standard equipment.

Actually, I am a rugby fan, myself. AUssie Rules is a bit of a pretty boys' sport, while rugby is a true team sport in which tactics are strangely similar to trench warfare. Oh, and they play for more than ten seconds at a time, too. What is up with American football? A ten-second play, a three-hour chat witht he boys, an eight-second play, a five-hour chat with the boys...
