at crescatsententia.org will baude writes about volokhian conspirator and marginal revolutionary tyler cowen, guest blogging this week at the wall street journal
i didn't think he would look like that, will says.
this is one reason i didn't nominate will baude in the future supreme court justices category at beneath their robes. photos are required, and i'm not sure i want to know what will looks like.
cowen looks like an economist might. two disconcerting problems can arise
this is why the book is better than the movie.

too much internet.
did: finished the teddy kennedy book, found where'd i'd put the quayle book, spent 18 hours online
had some lentils, a bagel. soft food, teeth hurt.
didn't: get anything done. didn't leave the house, pay the bills, check the messages, read the paper, call the dentist, anything.
it was a sunny day, almost motivattion to get out of bed.
tomorrow: read paper check phone messages bring in shelf
that was today, but the rest of the week was about the same. oh except for the bmv fiasco.
there are reasons for not leaving the house

i suppose today was actually a good day. i got my driver's license. it only took 5 1/2 hours of meetings with the head of the department and various lawyers.
big date tonight with an old friend if he's home and sober
with my new driver's license, i was able to get the pain pills i wasn't able to get last week. i don't really need them anymore, but it's the principle.
and i do mean "old." 52 this month i think.
you know of course, this means war.
i also got rat poison and peanut butter and coffee. the rat had been getting bolder lately. he had a big fight last night with my drunk roommate

it snowed for the first time.
i haven't done one of these in awhile. been blogging at vark.blogspot.com alot. had a traditional tday dinner with some strangers.
big accomplishment for the week was writing checks buying stamps mailing checks. put out rat poison.
i'm dreaming of a white november
lots of drama in which the female roommate left and is staying with violent ex husband while male roommate gets paranoid

Found out one of my clients saved $400 based on my advice, another was referred for prosecution. Need to follow up on that. Blogged a lot as usual.
Today: awake at 5 again, i lie there and worry, went back to bed up by noon. Biked downtown, deposited checks, paid a bill.
Didn't find the key so didn't open trunk to get cables so didn't jumpstart car.
hardware $22
Bought the bathtub faucet handles at the hardware store and a rat trap, but the handles don't fit. Went to better hardware store, learned how complex it is, bought a part for the leaky toilet.
Got a bigger bucket for the leak, and fixed part of the problem, need to go back for more parts.
things are in progress for the move to milwaukee.
This was by far my busiest most productive day all week.
Haven't started the stuff i really need to do today, mostly writing memos.

didn't hardly get out of bed. just the stumble to the computer and coffee pot. got a nice emailed response from a telemarketer that shouldn't have called me. blogged a little.
didn't fix the leak in the bathroom or go to the hardware store or make 2 calls or open mail or .. much of anything. get up, blog, notice it's dark.
like i was telling my lawyer yesterday, i'm feeling better lately because it's calm. i still have no get up and go., no vim or vigor
something burning somewhere but not me, probably next door. i get their cooking smells a lot.
now that's it's dark, maybe it's time to plan the day.
1) rest up after hard day yesterday. yeah that's the ticket.

I remember monday, but tuesday and wednesday blur together. Today was semiproductive. Wrote to some people in georgia who are trying to enforce an unconstitutional rule,
researched bills in california and ohio that are trying to pass the same sort of rules.
my ex called, and i got an xmas card from the guy i spent the weekend with, and my blog has been blogrolled at left2right and i got a match from hotornot. nothing in real life. the usual junk mail,
the usual coffee and leftovers and ramen. The business that wants to buy the lot didn't call back yet, I didn't get the deed ready yet.
lots of coffee.

ok so welcome to our diuscussion of villians in comics today
my villian, dr aardvark, has a comedic flare to his evilness. he's not bent on world domination like those others. he's more of a...
buffoon? your aardvark character is just an exuse for mindless antagonism.
Dr. Aardvark. Kinda has a ring to it.

did: went to east coast, visited mom, returned safely to frozen leaking pipes. a 6 bar trip, 1500 miles r/t.
today: didn't call plumber. or do anything else.
yesterday: did: cleaned up puddles, washed dishes, haircut, laundry.
did: just had good talk with roommate. been wasting time online, slashdot, infinite cat project, etc.
curious, these thought baloons seem to have beveled edges now.
to do: read gibson novel, pattern recognition. call plumber tomorrow.

by arbi
12-29-04
the couple next door got a snake, so i was able to fix the plumbing myself, saving maybe $300. i smell like raw sewage and dw-40. i made an apointment to sell a lot tomorrow and have a new client ...
new client referral for my lawyer. it's been a busy hour since the last comic,
... in which i claimed i'd done nothing all day. i impressed my roommate, got my hands dirty, fixed something.
ok, so there's a small hole in the kitchen ceiling.
now off to take a bath with a william gibson novel.
also i found the rat dead in the basement, and disposed of him/her.

didn't make any resolutions.
didn't: get fuses, extension cord or coffee. did get battery charger and take out trash.
it did stop raining finally. the sun didn't come out.
did file a deed and deposit checks.
i did finish the book i was reading, and will start another, to put off facing reality. i did bring in the mail.
didn't mail the rent check. did call the paper, didn't choose to wait on hold.
didn't care. didn't bother.
didn't call my ex on her birthday. did eat a sensible diet of coffee and a mince pie. didn't get any work done. didn't make plans.
didn't freeze to death in the dark.

www.stripcreator.com/comics/Scyess/265456 - guest appearance
yesterday i drove around town with a guy and he picked out a lot for the price of what i pay for rent for a year, so that was good. today i got the paperwork ready, caught up the taxes, headed over
to his place. made a wrong turn and got a flat tire. changed the tire in the rain.
at the battle of trenton, 1000 hessians were captured, no loss of life to washinton's men except two guys froze to death on the march from valley forge.
then the spare went flat, 2.3 miles from anywhere. i walked the 2.3 miles in the rain and caught a bus home.
tomorrow, go back with another tire.
this was better than that.
strangely, i feel fine, cheerful even. i'm going to have to stop using the depression excuse. feet are cold and wet tho.
on the other hand, this reinforces a belief that cars are unreliable.

by arbi
1-11-05
it's maybe half an hour since my last comic, the one about the flat tires. and i get this call from my roommate.
you may remember him from such strips as the case of the disappearing girlfriend, the war with the mice, the lake in the kitchen.
so he calls and says his spare's flat and can i give him a ride. tomorrow we'll buy tires and take a cab.

sounds dull already
Strong. Bad. Different.
Bates v. Dow Agrosciences - the question is the extent to which the Federal, Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) preempts claims by farmers
farmers in this case sued the defendant-pesticide manufacturer under Texas law for damages to their peanut crop allegedly caused by the defendant’s “Strongarm” herbicide.

tony posts in the comments at letters of marque, and the other blogs linked at crescat.
as most of you know, the character of the arbitrary aardvark is played here on stripcreator by wigudonkey 1-1. what i didn't realize is that wigu stands for when i grow up
tony rickey's blog, 3 years of hell to become the devil, had a link to websnark.com.
(the bookcafe scene is at websnark, worth digging for)
so the lead article at websnark right now has a lot of backstory about wigu. it's a little like kareoke. i don't listen to the radio, but i used to go to kareoke night at metro,
so, learned a lot of songs that way, and it can be odd to hear the real ones. so there is a set of webcomics known only because of stripcreator.
update: it has warmed up to 14 degrees. need new excuse now. basicly it's stress-related.
didn't: do the urgent thing downtown today. excuse: it's zero degrees out.
did: rearrange bookmarks, to clear the history, and set a new history of the pages most often visited. not important, but it's been on the to-do list.

In Illinois v Caballes, the court sustained a warrantless sniff which turned up contraband.
The contrabandito was a mexican, so the drug exception applied.
This was a case where I never got around to filing an amicus based on terror caused by attack dogs.
one of a million things you never get around to
had the plaintiff bothered to rely on the illinois constitution, he might have won

just had mail from a really cute guy at hotornot
nuvo wrote about me "there was even some guy in the pit, 40-50, in a business suit"
right now i'm running late if i'm gonna go to punk rock night at bubba's bowling alley, which was a lot of fun two weeks ago

let's see. didn't sleep well. water heater went out. i tried to fix the small leak in the toilet so now i have a big leak.
the paralegal at the office left without faxing for the documents we need for court monday, and the new secretary wouldn't do it without someone telling her it was ok, and no one was around, so that
didn't get done.
how was your day?

the day wasn't all bad, really. i got a positive mention on the election law blog for a link i sent them,
there was a good state constitutional decision in new york about lesbian marriage,
and i got some positive feedback on a slashdot post.
it's the real world that's not doing so well.

continuing adventures of a procrastinating aardvark
did: fixed the toilet, at least partly. didn't get the water heater working. did heat water on the stove for a bath
did: nice conversation with the roommate i tend to ignore.
watch him not get stuff done! the same stuff over and over.
did: slashdot, how appealing, instapundit. that is, i wasted all day on line. again. did: fix spaghetti.
it was warm enough to use the kitchen.
slashdot.org/~arbitraryaardvark
didn't: work on memo, prepare for trial monday, fix car. on slashdot soembody tried to cite us v riggs at me, so i told my operation sun devil story

there's a real difference in quality between the donors and the non donors. our fave is accentuatenegative, but ivy and chubby are ok.
this comic is in the nondonor category. sporadic, primitive, and doesn't even try to be funny. that one's ^ funnier.
meaningless chatter. you could be reading "men in hats" instead.
this coulda been another did/didn't episode. did meet with the lawyer, the caseworker, then got drunk, which messed up sleep schedule. did some collections consulting for one of our tech guys.
did start a hullabaloo on an election lawyers list about a voter ID bill. that was fun.

I am taking some flack for a recent Wired article in which I am quoted as saying that people who choose to make sprite comics do so because they can not draw. It's funny that some people would take th
that as me being an asshole. I don't think it's unreasonable to say that someone who chooses to make a comic with someone else's art rather than their own probably cannot draw
they choose to take sprites from games and create something more akin to a puppet show than a comic strip.
I know that lots of these comics are started just for fun as a hobby, but so was Penny Arcade. I thank Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior every Fucking day for my job.
