our thanks to little old ladies everywhere. e.g. seattle.
say, did i ever tell you the one about the schoolmarm and the mongoose?

one of the cool things about moving up to donorville, if it works, is, when i screw up a comic like that last one, i can erase it or fix it.
oh yeah? and what should i be doing, baking cookies?
it doesn't quite fit here, but that's grammy's signature punchline.

do I have to pay you to do it?

today was mostly a "didn't" day. didn't leave the house, get dressed, or hardly get out of bed. so my accomplishments are small, minor, trivial, but still listable.
i was awakened by noises next door at 5:30 am, so i was tired and went back to bed. did some thinking and reading.
http://www.sjtrek.com/trek/rules/
i had my first "5" rated slashdot post. it wasn't that funny, a quark joke and a link to the rules of acquisition.
i spent a few hours defragging this machine. basicly i hit a button, go back to bed, check back in a few hours.
reading a bio of andrew young. sincere and likeable, studied ghandi, registered voters, my kind of stuff.
chatted with my boyfriend and a few buddies, and a nice lady made a small donation in my name to stripcreator.
i'll either go take a walk, or go back to reading in the sleeping nook, which is the only airconditioned room in the house. it's been 90 in here all week.

this is the earliest i've been late to the pride parade. they even had an ad hoc marching band this year. i saw old friends, had conversations with strangers, played kooshball, went to the abbey and
talbot street art fair, tipped that cute stripper, got caught in a rainstorm, got my annual first sunburn, listened to dannon sing,
had a pretty good time. shortly, off to joell's party.

well this is thrilling. a generous benefactor has donated to stripcreator in our name, and brad musta put it through. it was a "token" donation *cough* *cough*
so this means new tools, new options, new bag of tricks to learn, more viewers (more than 9?), another small step toward maybe being a real toonist someday.
thanks grammy
and thanks brad too.

i heard something about the house passed a flag burning amendment,
wednesday: - darn it! the trouble with being able to edit comics is i had this right, then i lost the text somewhere. rats!
billing dispute letter. list of constitutional problems at cca facility.
which explains the background.
procedure to get drycleaning: 1 finish coffee 2 get dressed. 3 try to remember where ticket stub is 4 drive downtown 5 get drycleaning 6 stop in at board meeting?
WASHINGTON -- The House today approved, for the sixth time since 1995, a constitutional amendment that would allow Congress to prohibit the desecration of the American flag. It now goes to the Senate,
july 4th is flag burning day - while you still can
what i have is a to do list. what i need is a daily task list, "dtl". because if i stop in at the board meeting, none of the rest of this stuff will get done today.
if the flag is sacred, it's a graven image, unholy idolotry. if it's not sacred, it can't be desecrated. meanwhile the bill's sponsor, duke cunningham, is under investigation for campaign fraud.

if i have any new readers, this might be a good time to explain that these aren't (usually) funny. it's more an online diary, a creative outlet
the only thing i got done today from my to do list was i went to the solstice drum circle
as usual i spent the day blogging and hanging out with my chat buddies. 15 pushups.
brian leiter tried to take on juan non volokh, so the blogosphere and i jumped all over him. he'll live.
there was a full moon. i drummed till my paws hurt, played the spoons for awhile, had some hummus and pita and vegan chai. i brought crackers and cookies.
yesterday i found out i weigh 180 instead of my usual 155. this means i have to be careful - i could be in a manic cycle. or i'm just fat.
might go to a barn raising this weekend. female roommate is drinking again already.
went to the club, had my usual 3 gin and tonics, hung out with some old guy from out of town. $20
the airbag light in my car came on. i think that means i need to check the transmission fluid.

Today the Supreme Court decided 6 cases, half the ones left. The most important of these was kelo v new london.
In kelo, the court construed the "public use" clause of the takings clause of the 5th amendment, to mean almost nothing, so a little old lady gets kicked out of her house for a parking lot .
www.ij.org
the case is important because 4 justices dissented, and even kennedy, who joined the majority, wrote separately with reservations
in the next phase of the lawsuit, they will argue about how much money the little old lady is owed. if they argue long enough, she may die peacefully of old age.
arbi went to one of their seminars at cato institute in dc one time. good folks, important work.
even though they lost, it's a sort of victory for ij, a warning that any city that takes houses from old ladies can expect to be taken to court
that's the institute for justice, the same people who won the wine case a few weeks ago.

did: picked up the drycleaning, did laundry, sent a tax check, bought and installed lighbulbs, emailed my lawyer.
so that's better than nothing, but it didn't feel very productive. it's killer hot, in the 90s.
hard to have a productive day when awake at 3 am cuz it's too hot to sleep so i researched the minnesota multiphasic personality inventory.
reading "act of treason" which argues j edgar hoover knew about and failed to stop the jfk hit.
i'm not sure how early i need to get up if i'm going to meet the guys to work on the barn tomorrow. i should have called but didn't. i spent $8 at the store, not counting the quarters for the laundry
we give no quarter! arrr!

over at websnark, there's a heated discussion of whether 'yiff' belongs in the OED.
if you have to ask, you probably dont want to know.
didn't get much done today. 92 degrees. went to talbot street and the unicorn, wasted more time online.
kinda resting up. got beat up last night by a drunk neighbor at joellsparty. i'm ok.

today the court announced its final six cases. the court decided it's ok for the government to display the 10 commandments in texas,
but not in tennessee.
well that sure clears everything up.
if there's any good news it's that the texas decision only got 4 votes, with breyer writing seperately.
some of the other cases were important too. we haven't finished reading them.
off to go check the news, in case anybody's retired or something.

the supreme court in castle rock held cops can't be sued for not protecting women from violence
in grokster, the court held a software company that actively participates in filesharing can be sued
in brand x, the court said cable companies don't have to share their lines for net access
bell v thompson was about federal rule 41.. kind of hard for a mouse to explain in three panels. it's a death penalty case, still dragging on after 20 years.
the chief justice didn't retire today. but stay tuned for tomorrow just in case.

she left 12 years ago, and i still think about her all the time
my ex called today, and then
i love you cindy
she sent me email for the first time ever
so the bank foreclosed on the farm and i filed bankruptcy and -whoops a pipe just broke- and my deadbeat boyfriend is out of work again and my brother's in jail and my mom's stalking me bla bla bla

barn photos at raccooncreek.blogspot.com
monday: read supreme court opinions. tuesday: appointment with headshrinker, then met ed, drove to the barn, started work, camped out.
wed: we took down the rest of the second floor flooring, i cleaned up the scrap wood, we started taking off the siding.
it's the first honest day's work i've done in a year. talk about "sweat equity."
weds: got bagels, compact florescensent light bulbs, and a no pest strip. to do thursday: get tetanus shot, write the memo.

my roommate lately has had an annoying habit of leaving for work, locking his door, with the cat, mario, in the house, without access to the litter box
oh yeah, i put batteries in the talking teddy bear so he talks again.
so i let the cat out, only he wouldn't come back. after a few hours i went out and found him.
wouldn't want the roommate to lose the cat as well as the girlfriend and his transmission in the same month. he doesn't have much left, besides his job and lots of booze

so about a week ago we pick up female roommate from jail, where she did 40 days on a dui
as soon as we got home she had a cigarette. the next day she was drinking again.
a few days later, she was gone. probably back to her ex husband. maybe dead in a ditch somewhere.
it's getting to be a familiar pattern

This just in: Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor is retiring.
O'Connor was the first woman on the court. A former elected official, she was able to form winnign coalitions and was considered the powerful swing vote.
What's next Sandy?
Heading to the Mekong delta. Those giant catfish are bitin'. Gotta catch em all.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch....
Get me senator Phil "Buster" Porkmore on the hotphone, pronto, tonto.

nobody expects the spanish inquisition
unfortunately, one of the leading contenders is Bush crony AG Gonzales.
who is best known for torturing random iraqis, and prosecuting extreme video for fictional depictions of torture, which he calls obscene.

probably not heidi bond.
speculation is rampant. names are being tossed about in a frenzy. will the nominee be a woman?
edith jones? janice brown? dame edna?
there is some support for a hispanic such as judge garza
how about juan non-volokh?
the first anonymous supreme court justice!

if you're new here, most of the strips are just laundry lists of what i did or didn't get done. some people have secretaries. i have stripcreator and blogger.
yesterday i got one thing done, went to a meeting. only 4 people showed up, so we got a lot done. oh and i bombed the roaches in the bathroom.
today i've done nothing. was spozed to mail the rent check, go to the bank, and give notice to my roommate. those weren't hard objectives. maybe i should have spent less time at slashdot.
not to mention 'sexy losers' and websnark and stripcreator.
i'm exhausted from doing nothing, so i'm going back to bed.

did saturday: nothing. sunday: nothing, and the dishes. the memo's like on the tip of my tounge, but i can't get started.
this was a random comic layout
last night at joell's the guy who beat me up last week beat up a couple more people. cops were called, and his landlord's been informed.
to do: mail rent check, give notice to roommate, 2 deeds, several memos.
my ex has a taste for loser boyfriends. that says something about me. after a long unemployment, he quit his new job first day.
i avoid this problem by avoiding new jobs. i don't generally quit; i get fired first.

there's a slashdot story today on the sex life of ants. i stayed out of that one.
i noticed i had a cup of coffee here. it took me a full minute to remember having gone downstairs to fix the coffee. the strange thing is this is only my second cup today. my usual pattern is
is computer and coffee all day long. the other cup has sweetened iced tea with tamarind. that's not a punchline, it was just the thing that keyed my memory of having gotten the coffee and crumpets.

Are you a friend of Dorothy's?
Fuck yeah I'm queer.
No, no, not like that. I mean, do you know Dorothy Williams?
Oh yeah I do.... How did you know?
well i just spent a frustrating hour on google. friend of dorothy does NOT mean judy garland. it dates from 1880s. but i can't find a source.
it was something about an innkeeper in kansas where the gay cowboys stayed.
drop me a message if you know

this one might be a dupe, i don't remember or care.
the good thing about this place is rent is low. $125/mo was decent 20 years ago. today it's amazing. that's if the roommate weren't late with his half.
one reason the rent is low is the place could be condemned any day
since i live online, i don't usually care much about my surroundings if i have piece and quiet.
it's a duplex with a crazy lady with n number of cats next door, so there's no way to deal with the zillion roaches
lately it's been hot and damp = roach explosion
but this is like the fourth time tonight a roach has crawled up my leg.
ick

also, injokester let me in on a couple of his injokes.
i found a way to get over my guilt about not getting any work done today... via websnark,
www.megatokyo.com/ index.php?strip_id=57
i checked out megatokyo, one of the classic webcomix i've never actually read.
update: on monday i read chapter 1.
i didn't understand it at first so i figured i'd start at the beginning..2000. i should be done in a week.
chapter zero was pretty good. 6 to go.

Showing page 6.
