One Monday after school, Bat flew home in a very bad mood. His friend, Turkey, really wanted to help him.
Ugh! I am so frustrated with school! I have no idea what I am doing! I give up!!
Calm down, Bat. What is so frustrating?
Well, today Ms. Williams was teaching us about something new. I cannot even remember what it was called. Ugh!
Ok, let me see if I can help. What do you remember about it?
Umm..well, I know it was about a story.
Okay! Was it a long story or a short story?

Bat was beginning to get frantic.
Turkey, I really just want to give up! I just don't know!
No Bat! Let me help. Think hard. Was it a long story or a short story?
Bat thought really hard to remember the story.
I think I remember. It was a short story! It was a short story!
Ok good job. Who were the characters in the story?
I think I remember a mouse and a lion or maybe it was a tortoise and a hare. I don't know, Turkey. Ugh!
Okay, so were all of the characters animals? Were there any humans in the story?

Bat was beginning to remember more about what he learned in school.
No, there were only animals in this story. And guess what? The animals could talk and think just like humans!
Wow, that's odd, but very interesting. Tell me more!
Turkey, that is all I remember! Don't make me mad again!
Stay calm, Bat. Did this short story about talking animals teach you a moral?
Moral? That sounds familiar. You are starting to sound like Ms. Williams. What is a moral again?
A moral is a lesson learned from a story. It usually teaches you what is right or wrong.

Oh yea!!! I remember now. Yes it had a moral!
A fable!
No, I said it had a moral.
I know, Bat. That means you learned about fables today.
Moral: Two heads are better than one.
Ohhh yea! Fables! Yes! I love fables!
I am so glad we figured this out together.
