A bug in my bathroom. This can't be good. I feel like I should do something. I'm sure there's sanitary issues to consider.
Then again, there's the whole sanctity of life thing to consider. There was this Dalai Lama guy I heard about once. What did he say?

Do you know how fast you were going?
Is that a rhetorical question? I imagine you've got it recorded down to at least the second decimal point.
Do you at least have any idea what the posted speed limit on this stretch of road is?
My guess is that you know the answer to that better than me, and you're only asking to shame me by making me admit I was deliberately breaking the law, or that I was recklessly ignorant of it.
Now, there's no need to get snippy. I was going to let you off with a warning, but now I'm going to write you up, just to teach you a lesson about that attitude.
Yes. I can see that the passion to educate is burning inside you.

Hey! What's going on?
We're organizing a march against gun violence! First we'll lay down a shrine of flowers at this horrific crime scene. Then we're marching all the way down to city hall.
Wow! That sounds ambitious. Do you really think it'll make a difference?
I hope so. We're expecting wall-to-wall TV coverage. We've gathered the city's aldermen and community and church leaders. When we get downtown, they're all scheduled to give inspirational speeches.
Please don't take this the wrong way. But how exactly do you think a march will have any effect on gun violence?
Did I tell you we got the mayor?

Yo! A little help? The gummint's been tearin down some of the South's most beloved monuments and cherished icons, like the Stars & Bars.
They represent a bygone era, a time when civility & genteel manners prevailed. It would mean a lot if a civilized gent like yourself would explain to those radicals these symbols only represent
the best of Southern Culture. You know, white summer suits and hoop dresses and mint julips and all that shit.
You DO realize the Stars & Bars was a battle flag that had lain buried in disgrace until after WWII and the resurgence of Jim Crow and the reassertion of Southern privilege.
This whole benevolent overseer nonsense was concoted after the fact to rehabilitate a bunch of traitors who rebelled against their own country.
So . . . maybe a donation? The bayonet's just a prop.

Actually sir, your grip has been loosening for decades. Your allies are dying off and being replaced by satraps less inclined to cruelty, and unintimidated by your bluster. A new age is unfolding.
Why has the world turned against us? Why is everybody being so mean? Don't you know what good guys we really are? Never before in history has anyone been treated so shabbily! Shame! Shame!
