Two Threads, One Contest, Seven Days!

The nature of this contest is as follows:

  1. Within the next 24 hours, we will be posting two contest threads. ObiJo’s will be CC 217-O, and kaufman’s will be CC 217-K. You will have seven days from the creation of the second contest thread to submit your entries.

  2. Enter either or both contests. It's up to you.

  3. you have five comics -- spend them wisely. A total of no more than five entries may be posted by any person to the two threads. A sixth entry will disqualify all of your entries.

  4. The winner of CC 217 will be the comic selected as the best one from the contest thread with the fewest entered comics.

We’ll give you some time to stew on that and make plans, and then post our rules tomorrow.

Mwahahaha!

There is no sign-up. He who enters enters. He who enters not enters not. Learn from the contradiction, grasshopper.

I have a question. When counting the comics per thread, are all comics in the thread counted, or only rules compliant ones? If I wanted to tip the scales one way, could I hypothetically post four gibberish comics in the other thread, or would they be disregarded?

The non-rules compliant ones would still count toward your five, but not toward the total in the thread, so they're basically a waste.

You can still tip the scales one way using gibberish comics though. They just have to be rules-compliant gibberish comics, and they count towards your five.

Enter the strategizing. :)

First: Go over five and none of your comics count. Like they vanished.

Second: Why post gibberish? I'm sure you could make a mediocre technically compliant comic in your sleep.

Third: If Obi doesn't mind and overrule it, I'm making a snap decision: Photoshopped and old comics won't be counted toward thread length, but they will be counted toward your five. Comics that are arguably compliant, even if it takes some creative stretching will be counted toward thread length.

Happy?

As it is written, so shall it be.

(I've always wanted to say that.)

Will there be a judging in the more popular topic just for kicks? I mean, like the true winner is the one who wins the less popular topic, but will you still get some sort of honorable mention if you make a great comic in the more popular topic?

The "losing" thread(the one with more comics) will be treated as non-existent and won't be judged. That's why it's so important to try to get the contest you believe you have the better chance in to be the one that gets judged.

We do retain the right, however, to break this rule should we encounter a comic or two that we find absolutely brilliant and want to acknowledge. But in all likelyhood, the "losing" contest thread won't be judged at all.

ObiJo and I have spent sleepless nights wondering what would happen if, say, there were 49 comics in the Life thread, and 49 comics in the Death thread.

Have you been wondering that too?

Have you smartasses been planning it that way?

Well, in the name of (almost) full disclosure, we'll tell you what will happen in the case of a tie.

The first tiebreaker will be which thread had the fewest different people contribute to it. If those numbers are the same, we'll go to the which thread's comics had the fewest (not counting titles) words. You probably knew this was coming, given who blessed us with "fifteen words or less".

And if you manage to be dead even on that score? Well, we're not telling, other than that it may involve penalty kicks, ostriches, and/or Brad.
