I have always loved good superhero parodies. Mad had Superduperman, Batboy, Plastic Sam, and Woman Wonder. DC had the Inferior Five, which included such parodies as the Kookie Quartet, the Cobweb Kid, and the Submoron. Marvel had some parodies that I remember less distinctly, though I do remember Gnatman.

I have recently begun my own parody of the Fantastic Four, which I call the Furshlugginer Four.

I see you used the same image I'm planning on using for my Dr. Doom parody when I get to it. I would have used the blond kid for Johnny if I had found it in time, though I'm glad I didn't, because it is too much of a dead ringer for the image I am using for my Submariner parody. Speaking of my Submariner parody, you can see him now in the next installment of my Furshlugginer Four series.

I now introduce my Dr. Doom parody. The Harlequin character is based more on DC characters than Marvel but is not as closely based on them as my Marvel parodies have been on the characters they're based on.

Here are the first two battles in this epic conflict. Notice the change in venue. This is probably because some supervillains altered the timeline since we last saw our antagonistic heros. Or maybe the brick wall was always there on the other side.

Since I like the group Evanescence, I looked up the word. That's the inspiration for this strip. We will return to the saga of the Furshlugginer Four after this short break from an alternate reality.

Glad you like them. Maybe I'll do Spider-Man eventually. He has always been one of my favorite Marvel characters. I even used to get excited about watching him on the Electric Company. But with the current selection of images, I would have to settle for a Venom-like costume. For the immediate future, I'm planning on doing something with the Invaders. My last strip was an intentional segue to this.

Oh, gads. I imagine Red Simon is his main nemesis? Does he help the war effort by releasing albums? Just don't let it sink into cliched anti-American stereotypes; those things are overdone.

I've never heard of Red Simon. I expect I'll go with White Skull, since some images will work with that.

Oh, you see, I don't actually watch American Idol. I just used the name because of its timeliness and because I had just read a bunch of back issues of A Next, the next generation of Avengers in the Marvel2 Universe, which includes the ever so fetching M2 successor to Captain America, American Dream.

These four strips wrap up my World War II storyline. Although real people and events have sometimes been used, this is all fiction. I'm afraid that if you find the following four strips very funny, you may be morally deficient. But they bring the plot I've been weaving to its conclusion.

These two strips begin a series of strips that will lampoon the Avengers.

To get pedantic for a moment, this thread might more properly be called "Superhero Lampoons." According to the dictionary, a parody imitates the style of something, while a lampoon will satirize a specific person or character. For an example of the difference, the Powerpuff Girls is a parody, while the Justice Friends is a lampoon. The Justice Friends lampoons specific comic book characters, namely Captain America, Thor, and Hulk, but it does it in a style very different from the comic books they appear in. In contrast, the Powerpuff Girls are not based on any particular comic book characters, though they bear some resemblance to Supergirl and her Earth-2 counterpart Powergirl. Instead, the Powerpuff Girls parodies the superhero genre without very much lampooning of specific characters.
