This isn't as funny, but is closer to the truth.

Alzheimer's CAN be funny. My grandmother has it, and although it is frustrating sometimes to the point of black spots in your vision, it can also be pretty funny. That being said, Alzheimer's has NOTHING to do with shitting on the wall.

Some people forget how to use their excretory functions, some don't. It's not indicative of Alzheimer's.

true. but eating foreign objects that may have an effect on the intestines is a possible repercussion of advanced Alzheimers. i remember that from my great grandmother and was reminded of it when i read the article on the french guy who ate all the coins, which was the inspiration for this series:

http://www.cnn.com/2004/HEALTH/02/18/coin.eater.ap/

anyway, even though my great grandmother's eating foreign objects may have contributed to the internal bleeding in her intestinal lining, whenever we would sometimes have to struggle to keep her from putting things in her mouth that weren't edible (like with a baby), i found it very funny.

Everybody sing along ...

o/` There was an old lady who shat out a fly. I don't know why she shat out a fly. Perhaps she'll die ...

There's a wonderful museum in Des Moines (Museum of the Iowa State Historical Society, i believe) that has an exhibit based solely on a local doctor who half a century ago saved the things he extracted from people's throats. The best part of the exhibit was the note he signed authorizing the release from the hospital of a young patient. Describing the care that should be given her, it said something along the lines of, "She can eat anything she likes -- except pennies and nickels."

My roommate in school once swallowed a quarter. Not sure if that caused any change in his cognitive functions.

Me granny tends to misplace things and accuse the nurses of stealing them.

The best is when she hid a glass of milk in her closet. For a month.

They die of alzheimer's, eventually.
