I think there should be a random comic button for each user. So the only comics you see randomly is one user's of your pick because most comics I see in the random feature SUCKS! Because say I want to read Kaufman's comics, but don't want to root through them, I could just press random under his name and get a comic of his.
I think this is a good idea.

that's a dandy suggestion. especially since when I try to read boinky or kaufman's comics my computer freezes from trying to process the amount of them.

But... what if someone uses the random button on me and ends up on some drivel like, "The Phallus of Satan?" I don't want anyone to judge me on my early comics.

Unless you delete them, that's part of you. And there's nothing wrong with that. I've got people who took two years to get onto my favorites list -- they improved with experience, and I never held it against them that their early efforts were unexceptional.

Anyway, I like the proposed idea -- not on the main toolbar, but on an individual's comics screen, along with email and home and pm and info -- a personal random button.

Yeah, but I'd have to donate.

One idea that hasn't been suggested before... has anyone thought of using the splitter background? I don't know, it seems like a good idea.

I like this idea alot too. Sometimes when I need an idea for a comic and I don't have one, I root around in BigEvilDan's or UnknownEric's comics in the hopes of inspiration. This button would be neat-o.

LIAR! You steal all my ideas from my brain you know it!

Now if you don't mind, I need to get back to lining my office with aluminum foil to deflect your mind rays.

That's an awesome idea. I hate having to search for something of boinky's to steal.

Looking through ObiJo's, kaufman's, boinky's, and even mmyers stuff at this point is tough. Maybe we could even have seperate categories under our own names for certain comics? Like, a subdirectory.

MikeyG/EggsofSatan for example. I'd put all my eggs of satan comix there and others in the misc. folder.

I think a random button would be a good idea. I just tried to view boinky33s comics and now my prescription needs to be updated.

That's a really great idea, Mike. For instance, I have upwards of 20 series or so, many of which are running at the same time. We could have things that work like files that hold series or themed comics or whatever.

In this case, it'd be much easier for me to just be able to ride around in a little backpack on choad's back like Yoda and steal his ideas as they come to him. The strips are strong in this one.

the legitimate concern i would have is that it might pull a comic from the middle of a series, but then if you don't number your serial comics, you clearly aren't interested in keeping your readers from being confused anyway. if this here random button is codeable, i say go for it.

an alternate (or additional) suggestion would be to add that function to the "Display Comic" menu in account settings. i, for one, am tired of trying to decide which of my amazing comics is funniest and therefore should greet people who go to my front page.

That's why we should have series folders. Then people could just read them all from a series and draw inspiration then.

Change boinky33 to whatever username you want. I'll figure out where to jam this thing later.

I tried it with Kaufman and I actually saw one that didn't make me laugh, at first. I believe it was "The Wizard of Oz in Three Panels," and it reminds me of my own shit, "Goodfellas in Three Panels Or Less."

I also landed on the same one four times.
"That's the problem with randomness... you never can tell."

This little thing?

No, it's not a knee-slapper, but it's not meant to be. The fun is in the selection of characters and backgrounds. It begins and ends in black&white, and in the middle is in glorious Technicolor.

I also like the casting of Phil as B&W Dorothy. That first one sort of looks like he's carrying a small dog, if you squint at it right. You have to remember that this comic will turn three next week. That means that it was made months before we had anything like, I dunno, someone holding a cat available to us. And it was eons before anyone did up Goodfellas :-)

Now that I've explained that work of art into the ground, it's even less funny now. My work on this planet is done. See you on Saturn!

indeed, phil's hair is very dorothyesque. in fact, judy garland may well be one of the ugliest successful movie actresses of all time. she was the shelley duvall of the '30s and '40s. unbeknownst to most people, judy's eyebrows had their own trailer on movie sets.

I actually did that before I even knew anyone else had done a "Movie in Three Panels" comic. Small world, eh?
