It's about the FTC. Maybe nobody wants to enter it because I'm the one hosting, or maybe its because of it's recent transfer to the MCC forum. It's been up a week and there's been 8 entries. People may think its not an important competition, but I know, at least, that when i was new here it was an honor to recieve any award, mostly because the SC big guns participated. I just don't want the FTC to go down as being a mediocre competition.

Thoughts?

I don't think it's in danger or anything. I didn't enter that one much purely because that one didn't give me many ideas.

I think a week is way too long for a competition to last. Not everyone is going to like every theme. If you want to keep people interested, make sure you keep the new installments coming quickly.

That said, if it turns out that people actually are so bored with a competition that no one enters it, I don't know why it should be kept alive artificially.

Given that the last five FTCs had a minimum of 22 posts to them and a maximum of 51, my guess is that people were either away or just uninspired by the latest one, and that it's not a manifestation of any sort of greater problem. I wouldn't worry or take it personally.

I think the unnecessary controversy over whether or not to have separate forums may have lessened many people's view of the FTC and BTC contests.

I think the FTC has definitely suffered being in the More COmic Comps forum. I think I don't mind the other comps being with the "real" ones because the Comic Cup is still in the middle of the page.

I know I haven't even gone to the More Contests page since it opened. So it's probably that.

I have had no time this week really, or I prolly would have entered it. Usually, I get on fairly early to do a job search so it can leave the eveneing open for SC, but because I've been helping out at my church's vacation bible school all this week, I've had to do stuff I normally do earlier in the day, and had less time for SC. ^-^; So don't feel bad.

I don't think the FTC was ever going to last forever, some things die out, such as the What Are The Rules contest, but they're still fun while they last, apparently.

I disagree. I think people are making competitions too short of time frames. Not that I was thinking of entering the FTC or anything, but if you give it two weeks and ignore it until judging, it makes it all the more sweeter.

But that's a matter of personal opinion, I suppose.

Maybe for the judge, but not for people who don't like the theme, or for people who've already posted their entries. They're just sitting around bored.

I don't know any good reason to keep a contest going for longer than it generally takes people to think up a comic and write it. I've always said that quick turnover is important to Comic Contests.

I should qualify that. Obviously it takes some people around here about 15 seconds to think up a comic. But I think three days is plenty of time to mull over a new idea and come up with something funny.

If you want to know why I'm not entering, PM me, Aus. I can't say it here.

The FTC host document I believe states somewhere that if nobody is posting in your competition, then you should give them an alternate comic to work on. Not every finish this comic comic is loaded with ideas.

I think the ones that don't generate a lot of ideas easily are more challenging.

On the one hand, there are your arguments, as well as the fact that leaving a contest open for too long makes people lose interest in the entries they did enter. When/if they win, they don't know for days because they figure they still have time.
On the other hand, some people don't visit this site every day, so having the contests open longer allows them to enter at least once.
Furthermore, what happened to the "good old days" when strippers used to try to top one another's entries? It's becoming less competitive with no one really reading anyone else's material. Maybe there's just too many people here now...

My favorite CC was the one where we had to come up with a comic with no dialogue other than the title. Everyone was trying to out-do the other, including boinky33 and kaufman. It was the most fun I had in a comic contest yet.

We need more of those.
