They're getting worse. Stop concentrating so much on character development and throw some friggin' jokes in there. You've got plenty of time to develop your characters "on the side," if you will. This is a comic strip, not a soap opera.

None of them were really heinously disgustingly up-chuckingly awful, though. Except #4. (If I read through all that BS, I want there to be a joke at the end of it!!)

Recent studies have shown that after viewing your comics, 9 people out of 10 have suffered side effects such as:
upset stomach, nausea, vommiting, chronic diarrhea, exhaustion, loss of appetite, erectile dysfunctions, death, and an inner ear infection.

If you or any of your loved ones have read these comics, please contact your doctor immediately.
Thank you.

I didn't find them that funny. I suppose it's because of the cultural barrier. Or maybe it's just because I hate Finns. Yeah, it's probably the hatred of Finns, actually.

but its Norwegians, mostly.. :\. The foreign language used in it is Norwegian. I don't speak Finnish.

I wonder why so many people dislike Scandinavia.

I don't actually live there myself.. either way. I know a lot of Scandinavians though..

They seem more like they're inside jokes. Try aiming for a more universal style, and many more people will appreciate the jokes.

Your latest comic is better than your previous ones, I think. It's less funny, though, if you don't know the background of the Scandy fans. I'd suggest making it funnier stand-alone, but that's just my personal preference.

I know, I'm so lame. I'm the lamest person in the whole world. I should sell tickets so people can see how lame I am.
Or perhaps I wrote that because I did not like your comics, but still tried to use humour instead of just saying something like "Your comics are bad."
And you said that I had no point to make.
If I said good things using humour but had no point to make, you wouldn't care.
Oh well, I suppose I'll never express my opinion through humour again. That's probably lame anyway, right?

When making a comic, think universally. Will most everyone who reads it get the joke? If not, then expect people to say your comics suck. Especially when most of us can't read Scandinavian drivel(and I can say that because I am Scandinavian)!

Dagmar is NooniePuuBunny's younger sister that D/X tried to rape but then got raped by Noonie and now Noonie is raping Spankling because he likes it so technically its not rape.

Anyway, nobody was really making fun of Dagmar right before she left.

Wow... I don't remember anyone making fun of Dagmar, and if they were, I don't think it was in a derogatory way. What was it about, and where was the thread?

As for your own strips... Y'know, you've written about gaming, black metal, and have scandinavians running around in your strips, and on top of that, you're a girl, so you'd think that of all people, the guy whose forumuser character wears a Vintersorg shirt would be an instant drooling fanboy...

but...

umm...

The strips just aren't funny. See, I can't tell, but it seems like you might have the jokes burried somewhere in the non-english, which really sucks for people who only read english. It's one thing if a minor reccuring character comes in and says something non-english from time to time, but I would not put entire panels in foreign languages without a damn good reason, because it just makes people's eyes glaze over, and wonder what the fuck they just missed.

And also the premise makes little sense... who are you and why do you have scandinavian fanboys? How did you come across them? And why aren't there clearly understandable jokes in english along the way that makes reading about it funny?

I think that's the biggest thing. Lack of jokes. It's been said before, but it's really important... More jokes. Funny ones. In english... and that don't rely on the fact that someone speaks Norwegian to be funny as a non-sequitur. Work on that first before you start trying to thrust foreign tongues down the reader's throats.

AsymptoticNotation
January 22, 2005 6:37 PM

Euh.. well I guess I should make a strip explaining why I have Scandinavian fanboys.. why should they speak English anyways? Whatever.

Well, I might as well say my origin here and then make it into a strip when I feel like it.

One of my friends runs a forum. And as a joke, on April Fool's Day, he made a subforum called the "We Love Asymptotic Notation" and well, the population of that forum is predominately Scandinavian. So, thus, Scandinavian fanboys.

But he took the forum down after a huge troll attack.. how sad.

That would be a good start, but I'd suggest that you seague into it in the flow of a storyline... for example, if one of the strip charaters asks the girl about the fanboys, giving her a chance to explain it.

quote:
why should they speak English anyways? Whatever.

I guess they don't have to. I guess you also don't mind if large portions of your strip library have little chance to appeal to anyone who doesn't speak Norwegian. But seriously, why should they not speak english? It's the most common second language in the world. I've been on webforums crawling with Europeans, including our friends from Nortern Europe, and every last one of them spoke at least enough english to get by, if not enough to be fluently conversant.

See, inside jokes are only funny if you're on the inside. How would the people of stripcreator have known the significance of this without an explanation? The whole situation loses a lot without proper context. These strips would probably have gotten a riotous reaction on your friend's forum, but here, they have no such history and therefore no basis for the humor. Make sense?
