When I try to log on through stripcreator.com/irc/ I'm getting this wierd error:

Where those messages just keep scrolling forever. Is anyone else having this problem? Or is it just my machine?

(It seems to happen on both Firefox and IE, although I always try Firefox first.)

That happens to me on a typically daily basis. Hence why I d/l mIRC on one of my computers because that just wouldn't go away.

O.K. -- I'm not a computer expert here. But the recurring reference to "java" indicates to me that you might have spilled coffee on the keyboard.

that error is the reason I can't go on IRC on my laptop, which is a bummer.

I get the same thing.

My Java console is complaining of these errors:

Warning: Property 'server' wasn't set.
Warning: Property 'port' wasn't set.
DarkerIRC Version v1.0-pre5 initialized.

Interesting, maybe that Java applet just sucks. Let me look around for another one.

It's probably because you have a horrible colour scheme.

I have a similar problem with the new one.

I have a feeling that this is a problem with XP SP2. I got a fireall warning, but still couldn't connect after allowing it through. The console shows me these errors:

When I get a chance I'll try this on my wife's Win2K box.

That's pretty strange. You could try uninstalling and reinstalling the Java virtual machine.

You might also want to try installing mIRC and see if that works any better than the Java clients.

I would use mIrc, but my free demo expired.

Hey Art, I've been using an expired mIRC for about three months. Even after it expires, when you load it up and the "continue" button is gray, if you wait a few seconds it becomes active again and you can click it.

Much like my copy of WinZip that went expired for over two years.

Figured it out.

I'd installed McAfee VirusScan 8 a few weeks ago and it has port blocking rules. By default it blocks IRC.
