Been wanting to jazz up the front page for a while. What do you think of this?

http://www.stripcreator.com/index2.php

The panel on the right is a random first panel from any comic with a 5 rating or greater.

Welp, I threw it online. Still needs a bit of tweaking I think, but it's definitely better than what was there before. Thanks guys.

The LARGE RED LINKS above the last twenty donor comics are a bit gaudy and are not centered properly. The random "good" comic is a nice addition, but its positioning makes everything look off-kilter. I don't mind assymetry, but maybe you could place the full random comic above the last 20 donor comics and move the new large, red links above the random comic and to the right of the banner. I realize the links are handy for newbies and were likely placed above the "last twenty" for a reason, but they'd be hard to miss on the right side as well. Maybe I should shut up and quit complaining.

BTW, I'm viewing the page on a 19" monitor and my screen area is set at 1024 x 768.

I'm glad you held on to those pics :-)

The 404 page is pretty cool, too.

What browser (and version of it) are you using? The gaudy red links look pretty much centered here. I'm not 100% happy with those, but they get the point across, I think.

Putting the comic above the last 20 would be a little wacky I think. It'd push the list another couple inches lower, and also it's only about half the width -- what do you do with the rest of the whitespace up there?

Browser is MS IE 6.0.2800.1106IC. I think evil_d mentioned getting a text wrap on the links at 800 x 600. That's what I'm seeing, too. It's not a big deal, but I wanted to let you know.

We must be seeing the page differently because it looks like the full random comic would sit atop the last twenty quite nicely with little white space if the new large links were moved up and right. The last twenty would be moved down a bit, but the same thing happened to Stripcreator News with the new format.

Since they're too large to post, here are links to what the homepage looks like on my browser:
1024 x 768
800 x 600
I saved the files as 256-color .bmps and then saved them as .gifs to decrease file size. Thus, the weird colors. The layout is the thing to look at.

My main point is that the previous look was sleek and professional. Adding three new things at the same time makes it look less so. Still, the homepage is much more organized and easier to use and view than when I first became a member.

Yeah, that ain't right. I don't get a text wrap on the menu here in IE 6, Firefox or Opera. The links evenly spread out across the bottom of the Stripcreator graphic.

Are you on Windows 98 or XP?

And I think the old front page was too cold and boring. "HERE ARE SOME LISTS. CLICK SOMETHING OR LEAVE." Also the front page really didn't actually show you what the hell the site was about. You had to click in a bit to find out. I personally love the first panels, they're real intriguing. I just wish there were more top rated comics.

SC used to have full random comics on the front page but it left little room for anything else because they're so huge. They're 778x411, which practically takes up an entire 800x600 screen. Also I used to get email from people mistakenly thinking I wrote the comic for some reason.

I'm still on Winders 98. Must be the problem. Geez, is it 2005 already?

The first panel effect is very cool, and viewing the rest of the comic does help give people an idea what the site is about. When I first came here, I had no idea what was going on. Now, I have even less of an idea. ;)
