Presenting: The Gary Larson Award

This is an award that will go to the person who can make the best comic using only one panel (in honour of the great Gary Larson, the world's leading single-panel comic artist.)

It may or may not be ongoing, depending on its success and whether or not people want yet another competion running. (I find that single-panel comics often use a different sort of humour to be successful, I for one would love to see what people can come up with.) So if you don't want this here, please say so.

The Rules:

You can use one panel only to make your comic.

Non-Donors can enter by using the "Black" background in the first and third panel without characters or text.

Enter as many times as you like.

Judging:

Since this is a new competition the judge for this competition will be the first donor with four or more stars to post, saying that they want to judge. (Sorry if this excludes anyone, I just don't want to risk having this run into the ground before it starts). Thereafter (should people want this to continue) the judge will be the winner of the previous comp as per tradition.

Judges may judge however they see fit, and may add/subtract whatever new rules they think will be appropriate (themes, set backgrounds or characters, etc...). I'd suggest they also award points for using Cows...

I'd like to judge.

Animals in general will be a good start.

I originally had it in there, but the intro was still way too big even without it...

It's up to lukket now anyway ^_^

Judgement time is here.

While I really enjoyed "Clint Sells Out" as well as the sequel, they're really two-panel comics in one panel...

Anyway,

Lots of great entries all around - it was hard to choose only three:

Third
/comics/possums/283498/

Second (and best narration)
/comics/kaufman/283260/

Teh Winner:

/comics/Inflatable_Man/261231/

GL: 2 is all yours inflatable_Man

Thanks, but...

... so people don't think I'm a cheap bastard, I should point out I already won a CC kaufman hosted in '03 with that strip (well, more or less... I re-did it recently). So this would be the second contest I've won with it. Here is the link and at the bottom where kaufman does the judging you'll see that panel in its original context:

I'm not trying to relinquish my win, but I wanted to bring that to your attention just so you know and are (hopefully) cool with that.

If it's good enough for Kaufman, Kaufman must be good enough for it, so if you want to, I'll let him take over GL: 2

I'm pretty busy with finals anyway, so kaufman can do the next contest I suppose.

The new winner:

Kaufman

You'll be the judge of (what will be the clue in) the new Gary Larson Award Competition (GL: 2)

Well, now I'm out of school, so I suppose I could have done the next comp. I won't be an indian giver though.

Does kaufman know what has transpired here?

I'd suggest rock paper scissors, but you know that whole internet thing.

I would give it to kaufman on the basis of (a) I promised it while I was bogged down in finals (and even though I'm free now, a promise is a promise)... and (b) I didn't feel right beating him at this comp with a strip that won me a CC that he hosted a year ago. I have NO reason to relinquish my win to a third-place (and third-rate) draq queen. Nice try, though.
