I can't tell if this is surreal or just stupid. Opinions?

Yes, and he has comics that resemble both of those.

I actually thought I saw a continuity between a few of those strips. I'm off my rocker.

My god...

Some serious drugs went into the making of those strips.

Is it just me, or are a lot of them ripoffs of every stupidly bizarre student play ever writen?

I think the second of Gabe's strips is the more surreal. It addresses the idea that all beings have a consciousness which they can use as they wish, to "soar" through other planes of existence through the use of drugs, meditation, or what have you, yet some beings -- most often those in groups, who pay too much heed to their peers -- short-circuit this possibility by getting hung up on their apparent inability to soar in a literal sense. In the first strip, the first panel is good -- it points out the difference between what is truly long (or otherwise impressive) and what seems long relatively, by remarking on elephants' long legs when most people would think of elephants' trunks as their longest asset -- but the second panel doesn't have any point that I can see, and the third appears to substitute a cliche from surrealist painting for true surrealism.

Now, makeesick's "a dark psychological subtext", for example, might be viewed as representing the bizarre polarity in typical male-female relationships. When Jon talks to the girl and dances with her, nothing of note happens. However, when he falls silent, stops dancing, and looks away, suddenly she turns away shyly, and, smiling, thinks of what a "fiend" he is -- an obvious assessment of sexual or romantic prowess.

I suppose, though, that this is more "needlessly obscure" than "surreal". And strips such as "tutter" or "the sweet symphony of the devoid", from which I have not been able to elicit any meaning at all, certainly damage the author's credibility.

I think most of his comics have to do with imaginary time and man's pursuit of the edible.

This one made sense to me and I'd subtitle it "The seven-year itch":
