Anytime you see new comics in the newest 20 non-donor list, read them. Then ask yourself if you want those fucktards rating your funny.
I personally prefer only having a small cross-section who cared enough to pay (or trick someone else into paying for them) being able to vote on my comics. I don't always get the rating I think I deserve, but then I don't have to worry about 100 thirteen year old assholes giving every comic the lowest rating because their dicks were born too small.

i consider it like comic comments though - i don't care what mine are rated because i like them so thats good enough. i'm thinking it would be fun from a person watching the list perspective. the toprated list is boring as hell, barely ever fluctuating, plus there's such a low pool to draw from that a couple of people tending to rate someone more than others (not what they rate them, but the fact that they do i mean) makes a big difference in what comics show up. open it up and all that goes away.

or you could do a donor rated, and non donor rated list. or donor rated and everyone rated

YOU'RE WRONG!!

Actually, I enjoy the sound of donor-rated and non-donor-rated top lists. Food for thought. And THE KRAKEN!

I agree with the cephalopod disease's first opinion. Brad already gave the non-donors the ability to make one and two panel comics. If he gives them the ability to rate comics then what'll be the point in being a donor, honestly? There has to be an incentive to donate, or practically no one would.

I never said that! But I inferred it. So yeah.

editing and deleting comics is easily the biggest motivation to donate imo

just as pounding away at both of your mothers' vaginas is easily the biggest motivation to knock your dads unconscious with a shoe horn

Then why did you use a tire iron?

But seriously, the more donor features that are given to non-donors, the more we might as well give them. I can understand the one and two panel comics, but the rest is a privilege that the rest of us paid for. If these guys really want to edit their comics and vote on comics, all they have to do is send Brad a couple of bucks. It's not like paying for all those porn memberships you have.

The point of keeping voting donor only isn't a quality issue (though it helps) and it isn't meant to be an incentive for people to donate (though it might help), it's because I can trust the majority of donors not to try and cheat the system.

What you would see if I opened it up is users cheating their way to to the top and the whole system falling apart. With donations in the mix, it's harder for people to make multiple accounts just for the sake of voting their comics up. And if they do try that, they know their account could potentially get suspended.

Non-donors have nothing to lose by trying. And I don't have the time to sit around trying to catch that sort of behavior.

Comic commenting is a feature I'd like to allow non-donors to have eventually, once it's been tested with donors. But will come down to how much of a pain in the ass it will be to maintain.

These days, most of those fucktards you see in the non-donor list eventually become donor fucktards. I can't tell you how many donors I see that have only been around for like 2 hours and have 3 comics, most of which rely on a punch line of a squirrel lighting something on fire or a guy pounding a nail into his head, all with gratuitous amounts of 1337 speak. I think comic rating is kinda flawed anyway, same with user ratings. Meh, it works.

i tend to rate comics several times. its the only way to do it with only three options. once the strip starts getting some ratings you can change your rating one way or another. this can start to give the comic a pretty apt score.

What do you mean you tend to rate comics several times? Users should only be able to rate comics once.

If this were true, I would be rich and I don't seem to be.

If you have suggestions for improving it, I'd love to hear them. All rating is flawed, depending on your perspective.

i don't know if there's anything wrong with the rating system itself, i just wish it moved more. if your looking to try a new one though, there's still the imdb method:

weighted rank (WR) = (v ÷ (v+m)) × R + (m ÷ (v+m)) × C

where:

R = average for the movie (mean) = (Rating)
v = number of votes for the movie = (votes)
m = minimum votes required to be listed
C = the mean vote across the whole report

No, "m" stands for "mass" and "c" stands for "the velocity of light". Wow, you're stupid. I mean, wow.
