Or don't, you insensitive bastards.

Earlier today, I was officially sanctioned by a large game company to run demos and tournaments of their games. I'm only mentioning it here because it seems like strip fodder.

You want us to congratulate you for nabbing a job that sounds like Nirvana to most of us? How about we stab you with a fork and try and take over your position?

Ok. Nice job. Do you get to travel around or do you have to stay in one place? And if you get to travel when are you coming to Cleveland? (I've got to get my fork ready.)

It's not actually a job, I just run events, and the company that makes the game (WizKids, the game is Mage Knight) sends me free stuff for doing so. They don't actually pay me, but I'll never have to buy stuff for this game again. I don't have to travel, because there's already at least one local venue (plugola: Endgame), where the guy who sponsored me for this gig runs his events. I won't get to travel unless I happen to win that trip to GenCon or something.

Well that's still pretty cool. I thought you'd hit the big time. Like a job where your only responsibility is sitting around watching exotic dancers all day whilst getting drunk.

Just out of idle curiosity here Gabe , every single person i know who works for or with a roleplay company gets paid shit wages , or company merchandise.

How come you know the only people working for RPG companies who sit araound watching exotic dancers all day whilst getting drunk?

Is it just a Cleveland thing?

I was a games tester for six months or so.

It would have been a lot more fun if the games had not been humongous, reeking piles of arse.

The depressing thing is that I am actually a very good bughunter. I have real talent for hunting down bugs in games, but it was completely wasted - the game I spent most of my time testing went gold with (and I assure you I am not exaggerating) over 170 unresolved bugs. That's Elder Scrolls 2: Daggerfall kind of bugginess levels. Of course, Daggerfall was fun, despite the bugs, unlike the game I am referring to. *shudder* Programmers should never be given creative control over games...

That reminded me that the one other time I got a job that I wanted to have (game tester) it went straight to hell. The game I was hired as a tester for was Kumite: Fighter's Edge for the PS. Ever heard of it?

You haven't because the company went out of business before it got to the testing stage. Of course, since this new gig isn't actually a job (I'm an independent contractor), maybe it won't fall apart so horribly.

Maybe.

I decided to dredge this thread back up. Y'see, a couple of days ago, I was playing in a tournament for that game. I came in first, all thanks to the new figure I traded for earlier that day: The most badass robot in the game, the Storm Golem. Thing is, someone at the factory messed up, and that golem has two left arms. It took me about ten seconds to come up with a name for this golem...
