I am thinking about organising an IRC chat for everyone on the forum to join in with. I would set an IRC server and channel, a date, and a GMT time, then arrange for the channel to be open for six hours or so, and after that for as long as there are people still wanting to hang around and chat.

My ideas so far:
- Use an international server, obviously. Anyone suggest a good one?
- Run it on a weekend.
- Pick a time that maximises everyone's chances of being available.

Now, Australia is GMT+10 right now, the UK is GMT+1 (summer time), and the US/Canada ranges from GMT-4 (EDT) to GMT-7 (Pacific, summer time I assume, if not then -8). So...

Oz 10pm to 4am = EDT 8am to 2pm, PT 5am to 11am, GMT+1 1pm to 7pm.

Oz 6pm to midnight = EDT 4am to 10am, PT 1am to 7am, GMT+1 9am to 3pm.

Oz noon to 6pm = EDT 10pm to 4am, PT 7pm to 1am, GMT+1 3am to 9am.

Oz 9am to 3pm = EDT 7pm to 1am, PT 4pm to 10pm, GMT+1 midnight to 6am.

Oz 6am to noon = EDT 4pm to 10pm, PT 1pm to 7pm, GMT+1 9pm to 3am.

As much as I hate to admit it, that last one seems to most practical. I am not a fan of rising at 6am, but in this case I would be willing to make an exception. How does the weekend of the 20th/21st October sound to everyone? That's two weeks from this weekend just gone, either Saturday or Sunday depending on your timezone. Anyone interested in a big realtime chat?

I believe I'll be 200 miles from home this weekend. I may still have computer access, but probably not IRC.

I assume most people here are "Veterans" of IRC and the net at large , so why doesnt someone simply register a channel on Undernet?

Im sure we can provide enough email addresses between us to get it regged. And then its somewhere always there to hang out and chat.

That said , i agree , the last one is the most workable. Go to it Dexx!

I don't have this IRC you all speak of, and don't have the means to D/L it. SKAGGDAMMIT looks like I'll be left out of your whole chat ordeal.

I find myself saying SKAGGDAMMIT all the time now instead of goddammit. People just look at me funny but I'm used to that.

Weekends are not an option for me! I must agree with Crabby and say Skaggdamnit. The problem is, I'm working between 11am and midnight every Friday through Sunday. Oh well. Pretend I'm there, belittle me, and send a copy to joegina_510@hotmail.com :)

Well, I happen to have a chat-type thingy at my website that you're all more than welcome to use, if you're not against java-based chat. That way, those of use who don't have IRC would still be able to attend the chat (though I'd be willing to re-seek out pIRCh for this).

Or you can just tell me to shut up now, and I'll keep yammering anyway.

Everytime I'm in this chatroom I'm the only one there. Does anyone else ever use this?

Surely you jest.

There is a dal.net channel registered:

->ChanServ: Info for #stripcreator:
->ChanServ: Founder : DragonXero (xtreme@209.209.116.193)
->ChanServ: Mode Lock : +nt-k
->ChanServ: Last Topic : How do you change the topic? (DragonXero)
->ChanServ: Description: A place for the members of Stripcreator.com!
->ChanServ: Options : "Sticky" Topics
->ChanServ: Memo Level : AOP
->ChanServ: Registered : Fri 09/14/2001 21:22:22 GMT
->ChanServ: Last opping: Mon 09/17/2001 01:14:42 GMT
->ChanServ: *** End of Info ***

I'm in there sometimes. I would come to another network for a scheduled chat. However, I have a prior engagement on the weekend of the 20th - 21st.
