This is just a suggestion, and if it isn't something that other users would find useful, I wouldn't ask Brad to implement it. However, here's what I have in mind...

When you click on "Edit This Comic" you get your existing comic come up in the editor. When you make your changes, the only option is to update the comic in question. Now, it might be nice if there could be another button called "Save As New Comic" which would mean that new comics could be made based on the templates of old ones.

Often, my series comics (like "Life In The Office") use similar characters with similar backgrounds - usually it is just text that changes. It would make comic making a lot simpler (at least for me in these instances) if I could just bring up an old "Life In The Office" comic, modify it and save it as a new one.

Does anyone else think this would be useful? Would it be hard to code, Brad?

I think a lot of people would find this useful. I'm not so sure I would.

The same functionality could be gained from a "Clone this comic" button. In fact, this might be even more useful, as it could also be used with other people's comics.

Indeed. I like fpd's verion of this idea.

Let me just tweak my previous idea a bit and recommend a "Clone Graphics" button. This would discourage the use of the button for plagiarism, and it would better fit the needs of most people, who are just looking for a quick way to reuse the graphics in another strip. I imagine this would be most useful for those who are writing a series that continues to use the same characters and backgrounds, and for that purpose, it would be more convenient to begin with empty narration and dialogue boxes in the new strip.

Your original idea was better, not least because it's easier. People plagerize now even without the button. It doesn't take much to copy & paste text from one comic to the next -- as anyone who's ever entered a FTC contest knows. Removing the text won't make plagarism any harder.

It would probably be eaiser (and cleaner) to make the button copy the whole comic.

If you're mainly going to use a feature like this for entering FTC's, then, yes, the original idea is better. It all depends on which use would be more common. I doubt either is especially more difficult than the other. Should he decide to implement either idea, I leave the choice to Brad's discretion.

I think suggestions are bad ideas.
