I don't know if this would be handy for other people, or if it's already been discussed, but here goes. How about a way to save a comic layout? Say you're doing a serial comic and making several with the same background and character set. You could click a 'Save Layout' button and give it a name and then pull it up anytime. Basically a step beyond the clone button.

Useful, or no?

Useful because I'm lazy and anything where I don't have to overuse my tab key is nice.

Useful! I vote yes!

Also if this were to happen, it'd be neat to also be able to choose your own default layout in the account options. So you could set something other than the wee Asian lassies.

I'm definitely in favour.

Easiest implementation of this would be a way to grab a layout from an existing comic. (Rather than creating a layout database.) Would that do the trick?

So like on the comic creation page, there'd be a pulldown menu of all your comics, and you'd choose one and it'd autofill the page with the characters/backgrounds from that comic?

I think that would work great.

Did you ever know that you're my hero?

If that's the case PLEASE make it optional- I'm still getting enormous lag on every page that has my comic list, and it takes forever to save a comic.

I've said this in another thread, but I've found that the comic itself saves quickly, but the page for some reason decides to be slow to load. I use Firefox, and all I have to do is hit save and as soon as it says it's loading I just go to the home page and there it is on the list.

I've been noticing the same thing. I remember the page refreshing almost instantly. The first few times it happened I just stared at the page for three or four minutes. Then I realized I could just jump to the front page and use the link there.

Yeah I noticed that works in firefox, but not always in IE, which tends to lag itself at the start. I really wish they'd let us use firefox where I work...

Oh yeah that's slow as hell, I'll have a look at that today.

I think I figured out how to make comic list loading faster for people with lots of comics. Check it out and let me know if there's a difference.

Looking into the saving thing next...

Okay I think making comics should be sped up considerably now.

I got the layout thing working. Basically you specify a comic ID # and it takes the panel number, background and character info from that comic. Like this:

http://www.stripcreator.com/make.php?templateID=10000

Imagine explaining that one to your boss: "I think we should use Firefox in the office because it'll really help me make comics."

That's cool. Though remembering what comic has the layout I want is kind of a pain. Stupid brain.

What I forgot to add is this is awesome for making a lot of comics at once with the same layout (as long as I can remember the url), but not so much for single comics. I was just expecting the result to be each user could set their own default layout that came up when going to the make a comic page.

Why not just bookmark the make.php URL you want to use?

Bookmarking works well, I've done that already.

That was exactly what I said, his response was that he agrees with me but I.T. would get upset.

I'm thinking I could probably get a memory stick and run applications from there though.

I've got two bookmarks already; one for 'Stickguys with green background' and 'Stickguys with blue background'. I'm also working on a random 'Wirthling Sucks' generator.

I made two comics last night and the page refreshed within a few seconds after hitting the save button just like the good ol' days.

Oh, sorry, were you talking to Injokester?

You haven't seen my bookmarks. I need a card catalog just to find them. There's stuff there dating back to October 1997.
