Anyone here have any experience with these? Either having used one yourself, or worked at Best Buy maybe? I bought a two year plan on my house phones and I was wondering if there's a bunch of red tape to wade through to get stuff fixed. The problems are pretty minor, but if they're going to score me a new phone I might just do it.

Often such things aren't worth the paper on which they're printed or even less than a pat cliche.

However, my mother had one such Best Buy plan on her computer. When the modem failed about eight months later, they replaced it for her. She did have to take the computer tower to the store and wait about two weeks before it was fixed, but it was fixed.

I suppose it depends on the expense of the item and the confidence you have in the brand as to whether or not those things are worthwhile. ...Though I can't imagine having many problems with phones.

They tried to sell me one once on a $15 keyboard.

I bought a cheap ($300 no-name 27") tv a couple years ago. I turned down the service plan because that is my style. Anyway, two months into owning it, it blew up inside. I was told by the store that my 30 day warranty had expired so I'd have to go through the manufacturer. The manufacturer (Apex I think) had about the worst phone service imaginable.

So I gave up and brough the TV back to Best Buy and talked to the manager there, told him the deal. He offered to sell me the service plan I passed on and he'd replace the TV on the spot. So I did that and walked out with a new TV.

They really try to push those plans to people because the manager receives a bonus if they sell enough of them.

I figured they were probably like rebates. If they sell 10, and out of those 10 only 1 person actually ends up using it, the plans have paid for themselves. I bet people buy them because they sound like a good idea and then completely forget that they have them.

What do you know? They do work. I sent them in about two weeks ago and today I got two Best Buy gift cards worth the purchase price of the phones.

Since I sent in the base of an expandable set and they're our only phones I had to buy a replacement set before I sent in the old ones. It has talking caller ID which is a little creepy. The new set with 4 handsets only cost as much as the original base and one handset. So I still have two handsets I can sell on eBay.

Now I have to go back to Best Buy and convince them to let me use the gift cards to pay for something already purchased and refund the money on my credit cards.

So two thumbs up for Best Buy's product replacement plan!
