Yes, I know. About .01 percent of you actually care about the sport. HOWEVER... this is mostly about the fans, not so much the hockey itself.

Right now, I am watching Game 4 out of Ottawa, Ontario. Its the Ottawa Senators vs. Anaheim Ducks (just in case not everyone is aware). Whenever the Sens get the puck, the entire rink goes ape shit. We're talking cheering and screaming and chanting... the whole nine yards.

When the Ducks get the puck... the entire arena boos. We're talking there isn't a single sound (other than the smack into the boards or the clap of hockey sticks) outside of booing.

We Canadians aren't an agressive sort... but we're damn proud.

Hockey is one of my favorite games to watch because usually I never fail to see brutality. Also rugby.

I haven't watched either in a while. Guess I'll see if Minnesota has managed to lose agaon.

I, too, am a big fan of hockey for the brutality.

Last series, Anaheim vs. Detroit... two Ducks checked a Red Wing into the boards so hard his helmet came off. He also was knocked out and was bleeding from his forehead. One Duck was suspended for one game.

This same Duck hip checked a Senator in this series such that he hit is head on the ice, went head first into the boards, and was looking a little out of it for the rest of the night.

However, I've found that minor league hockey (in Canada, we've got the CHL, WHL, OHL) has more brutality, just because there's usually two (or more) teams per province, and they all want to prove their worth to the people of said province.

First minor league game I went to, 3 seconds into the first period, there was blood on the ice.

I remember the last time I saw rugby break out at a hockey game.  It was horrible.

I gave up caring about hockey when I was 13 or so. But of course everyone in my city is 120% into it this year and I've gotten swept up in it. WOOOOOOO GO SENS ETC.

When I first started getting into hockey, it was when I was living in Ottawa. However, during the playoffs, I was living in Calgary. And that's when Calgary went all the way to game 7 of the finals and lost because they gave up hope. Calgary was nuts... but I'm assuming that Ottawa is 10 times worse, just because you've got Gatineau right there too. And we all know how crazy the frenchies are.

All I know is I was out in the yard the other night and horns kept going off throughout the whole town any time the Senators scored. Nothing happened when the Ducks scored though so I was confused about the score when I got inside. I figured there should be a sad horn or something.

My best friend has season tickets to the Ducks.

I've only been to one professional hockey game and it was in a luxury suite at the Staples Center with full bar and buffet. I don't think i can ever go to another hockey game and sit with the rabble.

Fireworks go off and a cannon booms whenever the UT football Vols score a touchdown at home games. Even when I'm not watching the game, I can hear the Boom! Of course, one-sided Booms don't tell the whole story, either. We need a sad cannon.

hockey. that's that game with like ice and sticks and whatnot, right?

well, you canadians have to have something since you don't seem to be much good at any other sports.

hope the team you like scores lots of touchdowns, goals, wickets, or whatever it is they use to keep track of points with in hockey.

This is what's wrong with Canadian sports. Nobody cares about a team called the Ducks. Nobody. And the Senators? A little intimidating, but mostly it just evokes images of rich old men in bland suits.

How about something like the "Ottawa Earthquake" or the "Anaheim Apocalypse"? Hell yeah, that would perk some ears up.

I watched the second intermission hoping to see Don Cherry pummel the shit out of Brett Hull. Sadly, it never transpired.

Haha. Seeing as all they were talking about was Alfredsson's slapshot into Niedermyer. And how they shouldn't take the fights out of hockey.

I was impressed with the reffing last night... as soon as any sort of fight, be it physical or verbal, started, they were in there like a dirty shirt. Made me sad.

I was watching game 3 while "camping" (its not really camping, its motor-homing) with my parents, and my mom popped in for a bit and said something about the Mighty Ducks. And I had the smug chance to inform her that since the Disney corporation sold them, they could no longer carry the title of "Mighty"

I saw an AHL playoff game between the Chicago Wolves and the Hamilton Bulldogs so I think that has to count for something...

Hmmm...

NBA - MVP 2 years in a row 2005, 2006 - Canadian Rick Nash

Major League Baseball MVP 2006 : Canadian - Justin Morneau

Canada have reclaimed their position as the leading team in North America after swapping places with the USA following their 52-10 victory in the Bowl final at the Barclays Churchill Cup 2007.

It was the second time in a row that Canada have passed the half century in matches against the USA following a 56-7 victory in a Rugby World Cup qualifier in August and sees Canada equal their highest ever position in the IRB World Rankings.

Oh, and in case you don't know, you Angry American...MVP stands for 'Most Valuable Player'. Not... 'More Valium Please'.

I met a drunk guy in a bar once who insisted that all Canadian women LOVE to fuck.  So there's more information on Canadian... ahem... athleticism.  And now you know the rest of the story.

Steve Nash. Rick Nash is a hockey player.

Nelly Furtado is also Canadian. She's hot.

Nelly Furtado has a place in hell, if only because my Crazy Ex-Neighbor played that damned bird song constantly. And by "constantly" I mean after 15 times in a row the 3rd week in a row, I had to leave my apartment building and hang out with metal heads.

That sounds like my friend playing "Mouth" by Merril Bainbridge about 8 times over the course of one drive. I was ready to shoot myself.

That game was gross. I didn't even watch it. I flipped back to the channel it was on to check out the scores and that was it. Damn Senators and their choke-artist-erry.
