I did this one after getting into a "discussion" with a /b/tard who sent me the "Cherry Chocolate Rain" video, and then had the nerve to lambaste Tay Zonday for "selling out".

I liked that comic, but the guy was right about Zonday selling out. I mean, what about all the people who believed with all their hearts in the original anti-corporatist message of "Chocolate Rain"*? Is he going to donate some of these new royalties to their ongoing struggle?

Oh, right from the extended version he did with Bono. At first I was thinking of the "happy hardcore" version, and was about to ask you what you were smoking, but yeah, it makes more sense now.

I'm more surprised you didn't bring up verses 911-918 from the Golden Anniversary Edition remix, where he says he's going to get rich and famous and use the money to "castrate all who dared to call me lame".

I hadn't been keeping up - to be honest, the doctor says that sequence of notes has caused repetitive damage to my tectorial membrane (I can't hear the song at all any more)- and I really don't know what to say. I was wrong; he's become a different man than the Tay Zonday I once praised in The Guardian. Ironic, given the incredible consistency of his song structures, but I suppose that's the nature of power, though, isn't it?

Watching the original video again, it's funny how uncomfortable Zonday starts looking towards the end (around 4:06 especially). You can tell how much the guy needs a glass of water. The Chad Vader version still holds up admirably.

Ooooohhh... it's all beginning to make sense now (thanks especially for the last link; I've never heard of this strange "search engine" thing before.)

But anyway... I guess it's just another one of those internet things - there are so many of them that I just don't get. What was so funny/awesome/whatever about the original video? I mean, I was sort of amused when the teenager started singing his best Isaac Hayes impression, and that thing about moving away from the mic to breathe was kind of funny... but after that, I sort of zoned out. The Chad Vader version made me chuckle once or twice. "Cherry Chocolate Rain" was pretty lame.

I don't know. Maybe I'm irony-challenged or something.

Of course, I still didn't really listen to the lyrics in any of them. I think that was because I don't actually care.

Oh, but I do like the comic now.

Nah, the comic pretty much sums it up - The internet is this odd creature that makes awful things famous, and then gets mad at that fame. Thanks for sitting through all that garbage to get my joke though, I'm petitioning you for the SC Purple Heart. Nobody should have to deal with that much Tay Zonday at once...
