My wife and I have a lot of frequent flyer miles with U.S. Airways, and we were thinking of going to Scotland on a plan like this.

So I'm going to pick your brains. Where would you go? What would you see? This sort of vacation would keep us away from the big cities, which is fine with us. I think the only thing specifically on our agenda would be to visit some distilleries (if that makes sense).

I've been to various places all over the world, but I've hardly been anywhere in Scotland apart from the 30 mile radius where I live. I've never been to Loch Lomond or Loch Ness, or Aberdeen or Dundee. So apart from my local pub, I have nowhere to recommend.

Although, if you get bored, Andy's Maw puts on quite a cabaret act, she does things with ordinary kitchen appliances that would make your head spin!

Take the blender, for example.

I envy you. Why, you really can't go wrong with a Scottish vacation. You'll enjoy fine dining in a land where food isn't merely a taste eperience, but an anatomy lesson. You'll see many and varied landforms (well, like plains and hills for example) all without any trees to obscure your view. Be sure to stay alert for the fabulous and exotic wildlife. There is for example the white sheep, the gray sheep, and the much maligned but really just misunderstood black sheep. Ah, Scotland!

Id recommend Inverness , but alas , its a miserable little place , although the surrounding areas are nice.

Oban is a great little touristy place. As is Fort William , although its a little lacking in anything to do (It has a big mountain. Dont expect anything more).

Glasgow and Edinburgh are , of course , the big cities. Im sure you could annoy one of the Glaswegians on the forums here to meet you at some point for a drink , etc etc , but i seriously doubt youd find anyone whos up for showing you around Edinburgh.

I hate the place. Boredom on a massive scale .

Then theres St.Andrews (a favoured haunt of mine) , Stirling (Another favoured haunt of mine) , and Loch Lomond and surrounding area (not so much a town , as a series of hotels surrounding a big patch of water).
