I just returned from a piss-up attended by a man I suspect to be the originator of this thread, but it only occured to me after I returned. robbie, if you're out there, tell me if my suspicions are correct.

hey there andy boy, I dunno when exactly you're talking about - but I recall meeting someone from Stripcreator one night about 3 months ago at the Cathouse - was it you? If it was - tell me HOW the fuck I got talking to you, who our mutual friend is (was it big John or Ewen?), and why you think I was out with you the other night... I can't remember being *that* drunk at the Cathouse, but I have a shit memory because I wank too much. Please e-mail me, man, on
edmonstone@ntlworld.com, cheers, Robbie

Wait a minute I was at the Cathouse a few months ago, but then I WAS *that* drunk, so I could have quite possibly forgotten about a conversation I might have had. I tend to run into a lot of people I know online when I go to gigs, not sure how they know it's me, or how I know it's them.

Some kind of Zen thing I guess.

I think that fewer than 10 names are distributed among more than 90% of Glaswegian males, so that everyone on Earth has at least a 50/50 chance of knowing a Ewan from Glasgow.

I've met this "Ewan" of which they speak, many times actually, he rolls joints like sleeping bags.

I've also met "John" and been in his car.

I've known "Tinman" for years and met "andydougan" 2 or 3 times.

Ergo, w1nn3r = me!

Robbie's doing a live gig tomorrow (solo acoustic):

tomorrow, 9pm, 13th note club, glasgow

It's his first ever paid gig, so you Wegies should go give him some moral support. :)

So, my wife and I are flipping through the channels, and we find that we get BBC America with our new digital cable service. The show that happens to be on is Changing Rooms, the original British version of our Trading Spaces series.

We've seen a few episodes of the American version, so we watch for a bit to see what the original was like. Which would have been fine, except that they were fixing up homes in Scotland.

And we couldn't understand a frikkin' word they said.

Which begs the question -- are Americans utterly unintelligable to you as well? Other than George W. Bush, I mean.

I saw that. That was the one where they decided to upgrade the sod roof to thatch and wall off the stable from the sleeping quarters. Very nice.

American culture is rammed down our throats so much that it's our second language.

We can speak and understand American, but we chose to spell words correctly.

It takes practice to understand some UK accents, even if you live there. My Dad can't even understand the dialogue on The Bill, which is set in London and has (I think) very mild accents. He can't understand Billy Connolly either.

Same here. One of my nephews had a strong American accent for several of his childhood years because of Sesame Street.
