You know, there's some kind of glitch that seems to truncate overly long Narration. I guess in this comic it didn't turn out too bad, but it's a little annoying.

This was supposed to finish with.. "which is where I met Monique. When our eyes met it was like fireworks going off in my head."

Anyhoo, just thought I'd complain like the whiney little bitch that I am.

Far as I can tell, it works like this. Neither narration nor dialogue can exceed two hundred characters. The script that reads and saves new comics assumes that it isn't going to get any more than that and silently truncates those fields to 200 characters. But on make.php, only the dialogue input boxes have the "MAXLENGTH=200" attribute. So they won't let you babble on past where you should be able to, but the narration input fields will.

While I'm on the subject, Johnny, see if this regexp works. I'm assuming you have the entirety of the user's comment in a single string. I used this in a short perl script and it seemed to do the trick for me. And replace the curly braces with brackets, obviously.

Er, damn it. I forgot we were including the whole comic, not making links. Well, that regexp will make a link. Not much help. I don't know what you do to include the entire comic, I guess you have a function that accepts the strip's number as an argument, or something. Pretend I never said anything.

It seems that message board pages which contain comics give Netscape a lot of trouble, as might be expected. But pages that don't work fine. Maybe you could run a quick check to see the the user agent is MSIE, and turn the comic into a link if it's not?

Just for the record, I have absoultely no clue what the hell evil_d is talking about. His rantings could only be caused by some serious Drano snorting. Or perhaps posession by some kind of demon.

I'd suggest either an intervention or an exorcism.

When i worked at a computer games company doing playtesting, there were people who actually understood that string of apparently random numbers that you get when you ask for the details of an invalid page fault in Windows. Spawn of Satan obviously. I never walked too close to them, cuz that pea-soup vomit is a BITCH to wash out.

Now that's hardcore. But I guess not too difficult to believe. Of course, I always ask people to read the entire error message for me verbatim even if I don't understand it, because otherwise you end up with an error message paraphrased by someone who obviously doesn't know what the hell they're talking about, because if they did they wouldn't have had to call you about it.

Anyway, that string of nonsense I spouted up there was a regular expression. In the daily update in which he announced the ability to include comics in message board posts, Johnny said that multiple uses of the comic tag will result in multiple copies of the same comic, regardless of what you put inside the tag the 2nd, 3rd, etc. times. This sounded like a problem I'd had with regular expressions in the past, so I thought I'd make myself useful by working out a possible solution. Unfortunately I got confused and ended up with something that didn't really address the problem at all. So, like I said, don't mind me.

This feature is stupid, Brad. In fact, it sucks so much that I predict it will drive everyone away within a couple of months.
