I propose a meeting of the Cleveland stripcreator regulars in Cleveland on Sunday, January 13, 2002. I would love to meet as many of you as are game to attend, along with significant others. It can be a wholesome, family fun type thing, or a night of drinking and (mild) debauchery. I'm up for either. I just want to meet and hang out.

Any takers?

Sunday.... hmmm...

I probably wont be doing much. E-mail me before you come into town and let me know where you'll be. Maybe Gabe and I can use that weekend to whomp up a vat of jambalaya and we can sit around and get stuffed, so to speak.

:- )

I assume there aren't any SF Bay Stripcreator regulars besides me. Just wondering, because if there were, it'd be cool.

Me and Lara were planning to come up for that sci-fi marathon at CWRU the weekend of the 19-21 cause she said you'd be in town that weekend, does this mean you're on a two-weekend engagement in Cleveland?

Indeed.

I will be at the marathon. You will know which one I am, because I will be one of the few people who doesn't smell bad because she cares enough to bring a washcloth and use it when needed.

the 13th I work til 5pm, so it'd have to be a later thing (lemur and I could get there around 7:30pm or so) - are you thinking evening rather than afternoon?

I think I may skip the scifi marathon- remember how I said I'd go if I was in the state? well, I'll be leaving the state in about 2-6 weeks from then, and I really need as much time as possible to pack pack pack. taking off 2 days to see films may not be the best use of my time.

Please everyone* come to Cleveland- the month after, I'll be in Washington State** working on the top secret "Clippy XP" project, and I'd like to meet as many of ya'll as possible before I split.

*everyone does not apply to everyone. Use as directed.

**Yes, I'm moving to the Seattle area. Nyah Nyah!

The two times I stayed at hotels in the Cleveland area, they provided washcloths.

Though both of those places were closer to Akron.

Hmmm, maybe you should set up the get-together closer to the City of Rubber.

I meant at the marathon. I bring toiletries and freshen up at some point. Most of the people who'll be there are smelly geeks in everyday life, and see no reason to change just because they'll be spending 36 hours shoulder to shoulder with other people.

Evening would be fine, as long as people don't start pleading age and early mornings, and wuss out too early. :)

Seeee, that's exactly the kind of fun-killing responsibility that I am talking about. Wuss.

Alas, I can't make it. We're going to New Orleans in February (no, not for the SuperBowl) and that pretty much uses up our discretionary travel income for the next quarter.

If you care, this is our anniversary trip that we were planning for Sept. 30th that we delayed because of the 9/11 attacks.

Come to think of it, I'm not strapped for cash either. I've got money coming out of my ears.

I just found another one of those manilla envelopes stuffed with thousand dollar bills. I have no idea how it ended up under the couch, but c'est la vie.

I'm still, however, a skinflint bastard so don't think this means I'll be buying any of you lowlifes drinks.

Except maybe bunner. I think I still owe him one.

Good, just as long as it's nowhere near western NC... That way I can flake out with the convenient excuse of "I can't travel that far" so that I don't have to end up attending, only to sit alone in the corner and brood.

No, that was going to be our summer vacation. Though if my wife gets into the program to get a teaching certificate, there will probably be no vacation at all. Still, I hope she gets in.

That's okay. I still might come for that, unlike no-fun poopy-pants Lara.

And I work at 3pm on the monday following the 13th, so there is no get-up-next-morning issue for me....

If you drive too fast on the highway, do the disks start to fly off your car? Has one of them ever spun around, ninja throwing star style, and killed anyone?

Since nobody else is taking up the ball here, and that series of comics I did most likely effectively ruined any chance we had of being invited to Gabe's, (heh heh heh heh) I propose a plan:

1: We find out within 30 minutes when everybody who's coming plans to arrive.

2: We all meet at the local, (I.E: The Pride Of Erin Tavern) and do the meet and greet.

3: Next stop: My sad little ghetto hovel for some bitchin` eats.

4: We stake out where we're going and when (Sci-Fi Fest, a club, a film, whatever....) and go there.

5: If it's not airborne by then, we have no social skills and deserve what we get.

Any questions?

Any answers?

Anybody care for a mint? Eet's whaffer theen!

Just to clarify, this gathering is proposed for Sunday, January 13th. It can be from as early that day as you like until as late that night/next morning as any of you can stand.

The sci-fi thing isn't until the following weekend, but all are invited to join me in that, as well.

I'm very jazzed about this. It will be mucho fun.

Can I just be the first to propose that the Glasgow members of the forums never, ever, EVER arrange to meet up for a drinking session. I'm pretty sure that it would end in disaster/carnage. Plus, KKP looks like he could drink me under the table (and I mean that in a completely metaphorical sense).

Cool.

I'm pretty much wombat-like in my nocturnal-ness

My best guess so far is the Pride of Erin Tavern on W. 132nd and Lorian Ave. It's near Gabe and I both, and close to freeways.

Is that cool?

Everybody?

Gabe?

It's pretty much just a local pub, though. A cool dump, but a dump. If anybody has anything more snazz-ola in mind, or wants to not be in an alcohol service environment, lemme know.

I'm down with that, bunner. I'll email you and gabe my cell phone number. It won't be a local call for you because it's a Nebraska number, but if there's some kind of emergency and you need to contact me, I'll reimburse you for the call, if necessary.

I will be car-less that evening. If someone wants to be ubercool and pick me up, I'd be eternally grapefruit. Same goes for bringing me back. My host lives in the heights.

It doesn't have to be the same person picking me up as bringing me home, and I can certainly take a cab if no one is able to do it. I may be able to wangle a ride there from my host anyway. Everything's still kinda up in the air. I'm fully prepared to pay for a cab rather than put anyone out, but if people are offering rides, I'd rather spend the cab fare on buying a round or two. :)

An alternative to bringing me back that night is offering me crash space and a ride to a bus in the morning, so I can get to the car rental place.

I'm not concerned about cementing transit plans right now. Things tend to work themselves out. I'm just pleased that this get-together will be happening.
