Comic Cup VIII - The Serial Cup

Welcome to the latest incarnation of the Comic Cup, a tournament some have called the ultimate test of comedic prowess. But wirthling and I have both won one, so it can't be.

By now you're probably all aware of how this is going to work, but just in case, here's a recap.

At the start of every round, I'll post the first comic in a serial which players then compete to continue. In addition, their comics must comply with given rules.

As soon as both competitors in a pair have posted their comic, voting for the better comic begins. All players except those competing in the match at hand can vote. If there's a tie in the first round, I'll step in and vote. In ties in subsequent rounds, the person with the most votes in previous rounds will win.

The victor goes on to the next round, in which the loser's rule will be used. The next pair then have the task of writing a follow-up to the winning comic.

Here are the match-ups, determined by my closing my eyes and thrusting a pen at a piece of paper upon which names were writ.

israphael vs kramer_vs_kramer
Bazilla vs wirthling
fuzzyman vs DH-01
crabby vs fpd
kaufman vs xpac
skagg vs TheBlairZip
Big Evil Dan vs Kajun Firefly
Kevin Keegans Perm vs ladyjdotnet

In keeping with the traditions of the last two Cups, I'll keep this handy record of the tournament's progress, including who's voted for whom.

We'll kick off Round One tomorrow with the beginning of the first serial, and the match between israphael and kramer. Be there!

i envisage the voting on this one to be something similar between the choice between shit sandwiches and shit on a stick. i perform very poorly in this sort of situation so itll be another case of me being left behind in the first round no doubt

its like someone walking up to you at a party and demanding you "SAY SOMETHING FUNNY DAMMIT!"

See, basically all you're doing by insulting xpac is gauranteeing that he'll vote against you when you're time is up.

Bit of a silly (or over confident) tactic.

Me vs IsRaphael should be a good fight, as I figure we're both fairly evenly matched, unlike certain other pairings in the first round (cough - KaufmanvsXpac).

KKP vs LadyJ could be good, making the finale.

Oh Wirthling, you know what sucks? You! You know what you suck at? Everything!

Come on, how else am I gonna win, I'm still laughing at his understood comment on the other thread.

should be first round highlights, all evenly matched strippers in my opinion.

Round 1 - The Calamitous One-Note Character Caper

Here's the start of this round's serial comic. Remember, I'll be making up the rules for this round. I'll try to keep them simple to compensate for the evil ones you're going to have to contend with next round. Speaking of which, DH-01, I still don't have a rule from you. Get it to andydougan@yahoo.co.uk sharpish!

I seem to bring out the best in my opposition in these things. xpac is likely to post a gem.

I was not being sarcastic, fuzzyman. I'm truly perplexed. KKP suggests there's some kind of war between us (if one exists, I'm completely unaware of it), and further suggests that I'm the kind of person to resort to mud-slinging to win comic contests.

I'm not trying to dampen anyone's light-hearted fun, skagg. I'm just wondering why he felt the need to say what he did.

I guess "psyche" is an acceptable variant on the spelling, but I read that as:

Main Entry: Psy·che
Pronunciation: 'sI-kE
Function: noun
Etymology: Latin, from Greek psychE soul
1 : a princess loved by Cupid
2 not capitalized [Greek psychE] a : SOUL, SELF b : MIND

In any event, I figured you would say you were kidding as a way of defusing the situation, but try rereading your post and tell me I didn't have cause to think you were doing a little more than the typical "you're going down" stuff.

MERYL STREEP VS DUSTIN HOFFMAN

And now some predictions.

israphael vs kramer_vs_kramer
Close. Two funny cunts. Alas , i give it to Kramer because im holding a childish grudge about Israphael calling my character Ugly.

Bazilla vs wirthling
If Wirthling somehow contrives to lose to one of the unfunniest posters ever on these boards , he deserves to be nailed to a revolving door by the testicles.
fuzzyman vs DH-01
Fuzzyman. And my prediction also includes a near guarantee that DH will make a really bad sodomy joke.

crabby vs fpd
Ooh , tough one. FPD will undoubtedly be funnier , but if Crabby creates a "Classic" crappy comic , he may sneak it.

kaufman vs xpac
Lots of puns. Lots of wrestling references. Any chance of Kaufman losing must be tempered by the realisation that a vote for X-Pac is an acknowledgement that he isnt a one joke version of Bazilla.

skagg vs TheBlairZip
Tough Call. Paul Simon is playing in the background just now , and talking about a Baby with a Babboon Heart , so i assume hes telling me Skagg will win.

Big Evil Dan vs Kajun Firefly
If Dan stays away from Cowboy Physics gags , hes got a good chance. Alas , Kajun has been strong in recent contests , as a substitute for his lack of success with women.

Kevin Keegans Perm vs ladyjdotnet
Will be a no contest , after LadyJ shows up at my house , and after screaming "You dirty little cuntgobbler" and other obscenities for 20 minutes ,beats me to death with a used maxipad.

I actually considered the bola-tampon joke , but figured "Used Maxipad" had more comedic effect.

Besides. I can now use that one on another forum. Recycling jokes between forums is the way of the internet!
