Yep, out of all these:
PS1,PSX,PS2,XBOX,N64,Gamecube.

I just got a Gamecube, and it r0xX0r$ or something.
Its got great graphics, it uses mini discs, and the controllers are *VERY* comfotable.

As for the x-box. My friend Tristan has one and, it doesn't seem too different from the gamecube, except for the DSL hookup and Internal DVD, but i'm talking about the game itself. The graphics don't seem any different than the gamecube, and the controllers aren't comfortable AT ALL! Still a good system though. Gamecube and X-box still rule over ps2. PS2 sUxX0r$ or whatever.

So how bout it?

Overall capabilities: X-Box/Windows(PC)
Market Share: PS2(Repeat of PS1/PSX?)
Most Experienced: Game Cube/Windows
Coolest Games: Windows/X-Box/PS2
Best For Ten Year Olds: Game Cube.

Overall, it would seem that Nintendo has bitten off more than it can chew. With it's kid-friendly policies, Nintendo will never be able to corner the market of the modern video gamer, as most systems run $200-$300, and the games themselves cost a whopping $50. Not many parents will be willing to buy a $600 system/game combination, and VERY few older (read: able to afford it) gamers will want kiddie games.
Granted, the Game Cube has exclusive characters, but the fact is that Nintendo should have done a Sega and started making games for other systems. It's Mac syndrome. Sure the games are fun and work perfectly, but if only one person makes it, you're not going to be able to work with consumers.
Tony Hawk 3, GTA3, and several others are coming out for Windows very soon, so why bother with a console, I ask.
I say, if you're an adult, save your money and wait a little longer for the games to come out for Windows/Mac/Linux, and then you can tweak the games.
If you have a kid, get a Game Cube, there are so many more child-friendly games on that system. It's doing what Nintendo has always done, make fun games for kids.

The Super Nintendo was the best console ever. That was the one occasion when Nintendo got it right, before they started making ridiculous licensing demands on third party software houses, and eventually left itself as the only person producing games for their system.

To echo what Brood said, my favorites are the ones I can afford. I'm not buying any of the current generation of systems until their prices drop by at least half. But I don't care who the games are targeted for as long as they're fun.

I agree with kramer that the SNES was (and still is) the best console ever, when you consider its library of titles.

I think the Sega Genesis was a pretty damn good system. In fact, I think I still have one laying around somewhere. But back to present day, I'm still loyal to my PS2. People tout the Xbox as being the one to watch, but I still have not seen anything that has impressed me. Plus, I still can't get used to those damn controls. The only thing GameCube has going for it is that they are getting all the turnover from the gone-but-not-forgotten Sega Dreamcast, which gets my vote as the greatest console ever. I would have never believed that Nintendo finally got what they always wanted...they out-lasted Sega.

Up until about '98 or so, I wasn't allowed to have a gaming system. Up until last year august, I didn't even have a professional graphics card. Despite all this, I managed to maintain the status of a hard-core gamer by playing oldies and stuff like the X-Wing Series, Wing Commander stuff, Age of Empires C&C SimStuff JediKnight and your run of the mill old shooters. So I may be a little biased in saying this...

In 98 I got a NES and a SNES and a few games. I had played SMBW before and needless to say, got very irritated when I couldn't beat over 95% of the game. Overall, it was cool. Later, we got a N64 for Christmas and were happy with our first few games(Goldeneye, M64, Starfox, MarioKart64, and something else). I continued in normal fashion, playing these games obsessively until I had turn over every stone, unlocked every door, and left no secret area undefiled by my presence. When it was all over though, I wondered what game I was gonna play next.

There's a lot of sucky games out there, and games make the consol. Nintendo is defiantly, as brad said, the cube of 10 year olds and bald men in strange commercials. PS2 rushed to release its product and still came out with a better system because they didn't tie themselves into cartridges when they came out, therefore allowing players to play their old games on it.
Microsoft launched itself onto the market with a device, I'm told, is so advanced that it's costing Microsoft money to sell at this price. They're supposedly making no profit on it. Anyway, I don't really know the games on XboX because never looked hard, so I wouldn't know how to judge it there.

Anyway, the PC remains my favorite because-
A)It's always cutting edge.
B)Can be upgraded.
C)Games are typically larger and better.
D)I dislike conventional controllers.
E)Emulators(If you bother) allow you to play platform stuff on a PC. I don't know if they just have the old stuff but whatever...
F)With my PC, I can watch TV at the same time.
G)(This reason isn't so big a deal now since the other platforms have some form or another of doing it) Most games on the PC have internet multiplayer capability, and while consoles can do that, they can't build online communities around the games(correct me if I’m wrong).

Online games are crap compared to ten guys sitting around a sofa challenging each other at football games or whatever.

Plus there has never ever ever been a decent beat-em-up on the PC.

I beg to differ... Online strategy games are great! Plus, if you've ever had the sensation you get when playing Tribes2 as an experianced gamer and pretty good at the game... jetting over a desert mesa as tanks and soldiers battle it out underneath you... guys with rockets trying to get a lock on you and l33t snipers hiting other jetters mid-air... ALL CONTROLLED BY PEEPS... its awsome.

Ten guys sitting around should play poker or pool. Pool's a better game to play with your friends if your over 18. Then again, party consol games are fun. But LAN PARTIES are more fun!

Oh yeah... after the N64 we made the slightly foolish decision to trade in EVERYTHING nintendo we had for a PSX and some games. We curently have JediPB, Tomb Raider 3, Grand Turismo, JackieChan Stuntmaster, X-Files game, and one or two other sucky games.
That's what we had a year ago.
I wonder how long till we get some more.

PC has the big market share of games - about 45%. The other 55% is divide amongst the consoles, with PS2 holding (if I recall correctly) about 30%, X-Box about 20%, and the other consoles fighting over the 5% scraps. The big advantage of the PC is that the hardware is always evolving, so you can spend a relatively small amount and replace a piece, rather than a whole system. The PSone is, what, ten-year-old technology now? You can't stick a new CPU of graphics card in it, and you can't give it more RAM. Consoles are constantly stuck in an evolutionary cul-de-sac. Sure, they may be jaw-dropping when they are first released, but they are passe a year later, and old a year after that.

Anyway, that's how I see it. I have also found that console games are a tad too simplistic for me. The 3D shooters tend to have simpler architecture, the driving games seem to have more basic physics, etc...

Girst some prase for the Mega Drive, I loved that little box with 8 whole bits of joy, and in '93 was great to play, sadly that was that, MegaCD and the Saturn ruined any later hope for Sega.

Playstation works because the controllers are easy to handle, it has most games, and all the best. (my opinion)

The Xbox controller seems pretty shitty, though I haven't played it and can't really judge, though the graphics look great. And down here I haven't heard anything on the Gamecube to base it on, apart from that it looks too big.

The reason PS2 could beat the Xbox is because it's got a head start and some people may of brought that not wanting to wait for the Xbox to come around. Also the availabilty of games on PS2, not only do most games come out on the PS, but of course you can also play the PS1 games on it.

As for the PC, I hate playing games on it, especially driving games, it's not the same effect.

Play, Cube, and X are all, for the most part, the same system, only with different game selections. That said, I would get PS2 because it has the huge library (including PS1 games, just in case someone out there is so un1337 that they didn't realize PS2 can play PS1) and that, as Brood said, Cube games are either tenyearoldish or also available for PS2 (although I must admit the Cube graphics are the best of the three). X-Box? Somebody stop me from laughing.

As far as PC, I don't play it a lot because it takes too long to load, but Quake 3 and Half Life are worth it.

And I agree that SNES was the best. Having a SNES and a N64, I spend more time playing Donkey Kong Country than Donkey Kong 64 (which is THE worst game EVER), more Super Mario RPG than Paper Mario, more Super Mario World than Super Mario 64, etc.

Oh yeah, has anyone else got the Game Boy Advance yet? If I were Nintendo, I'd focus on that awesome sumbitch.

The Mega Drive was 16-bit, wasn't it?

Here, why is it that consoles always advertise the size of their data bus, while PCs generally make more noise about their CPU speeds?

PC is always top of the line, upgradable, convenient, useful, and hell, you don't have to buy little tiny cards to save your game, just save it to the HDD. That being said, a computer that will be able to run GTA3 (well) will cost around $1,000, but a console that runs GTA3 is $200. The reason? Console games are created specifically for a set configuration of hardware, whereas PC games are set up to use as little as possible in the lowest detail mode, and use a godly machine in high-detail mode.
All games are created on PCs, and therefore tested on PCs, so when it comes down to it? PCs really are where it's at. GTA3 is coming out for PC this month, Tony Hawk 3 is already out for PC, and I'm really uncaring about any other games.
Gimme a DVD-R and a CD drive (one to play the games/copy the games, and one to listen to my own music CDs without slowing the system at all) with a 1.7ghz Athlon, GEforce 3, 40gbHDD, Network card hooked up to a LAN (for updates and multiplayer), a keyboard and a mouse, and my games will look better, sound better, run smoother, and control easier than anything on a console.
Keyboard + Mouse = Gameplay Solution! (Note: This is null and void on those boring "non-shooter" games X))

GTA3 will be so much more fun when I have mouselook to aim at those damn helecopters, the ability to add in new weapons (Mods ALWAYS come out for 3D Games), the ability to bind cheats like the change clothes, gore code, and others to keys, added storage for bigger levels, faster load (HDD loads are far better than from a CD), and a no-hassle music choice (I only like Double Cleff, and I'm kinda sick of that too. Yes, I know the X-Box supports MP3s, but frankly, I want CDs. Rockstar better implement the ability to have a car play music from a specified group when you select radio stations...) and more options.
Internet play is somewhat implausible on GTA3 because of it's nature.

I still play my Sega Master System all the time. I got Rocky for it and it kicks so much ass!
I currently have a Gamecube which I got for Christmas. Sadly, I won't be getting any new games for it for awhile due to all my money going towards the baby. I plan on saving up and getting Animal Forest + when it comes out and Wrestlemania X-8.

Other than the original NES the system I've played more than any other is my Dreamcast. It didn't last very long but that little box was great while it lasted. I have almost 200 bootleg games for it, including a Master System emulator, a NES emulator, a SNES emulator, and a Genesis emulator. Including all the emulators I have close to 600 games for my Dreamcast and thats something I can't say about any other system on the market right now.

I think the Mega Drive was 8-bit, then they released the Mega Drive2 which played excatly the same games but was 16-bit I think.

I've got GBA, but honestly it's only worth it when travelling. Games like Tony Hawks or sports games don't work here, GBA should stick to 2D or easy 3D.

The Megadrive was 16-bit, the Megadrive 2 wasn't any different, just smaller. I had the the 32x plug in for the Megadrive, it was pretty sweet, but they only brought out about 7 games for it.

I actually own a Dreamcast and think it's pretty fucking good, it's just Sega's lack of money that ruined it.

But from what I've seen and played so far, I'd definitely vote the PS2 as the way of the future.

I bought a PS2 and I have to say I'm well chuffed with it. PCs are fine for strategy and first person shoot em ups and CHAMPIONSHIP MANAGER but completely toss for everything else. Sports games etc just don't feel right on a PC somehow.

I think I enjoyed the PSX the most, even though the thing was built like a piece of shit and had a lot of problems with malfunctioning due to normal wear. After getting it chipped and enjoying some really nice imports, I was in hog heaven... I love you Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers. I hate you SCEA for denying an American release for the game.

I had an early PS, and the drive spindle kept wearing out, but I think they fixed it in later releases of the machine. Good machine. Made gaming acceptable to the mass market, something Nintendo could never do with its moustachioed plumbers and bloody pokemon.
