It's come to my attention that some people don't have the ability to post wonderful pieces of homemade art, like this early Tobor masterpiece...

I know that there are lots of places online that hand out free webspace, but they're all lousy with ads and lots of them won't allow direct links to files, which is what you need to post things in the forums.

My hosting company gives me 350 MB of space, of which I'm using about 20 or so. When I get my site back up and running I still don't think I'll be using more than half of that.

So I thought I would offer free FTP accounts to any of you yokels that wants them, completely unmolested by crappy ads. You're even welcome to do whatever you like with the space. Put up naked pictures of your mom. Or wirthling. Or wirthling's mom. I don't care.

I figure an average pic is around 50K, so 3MB is enough for 60 or so pictures, which is plenty for most of us. I'm pretty lazy about deleting old stuff since I loathe seeing those little red x's in my messages, so I just let them fester. But cleaning old things out every couple of months should allow you to post stuff until you're old and grey.

Please don't ask for one of this if you just waltzed in. This is sort of on par with asking Dexx to draw your picture (thought it's a hell of a lot less work). But the idea is the same. If you've been around a little while and would like to contribute to the Stripcreator community, I'd be glad to help out. But don't expect a handout if you showed up last week.

As a disclaimer, I should note that these accounts could disappear at any time. I highly doubt that will happen, but you never know. If at any time I plan to switch or drop my hosting, I'll let you know in advance.

That's all. If you're interested, drop me an email at gabe@woodenbadger.com.

PS - If you use my space to host any faggy avatars like 200 x 200 images or crappy ass animated gifs I'll delete them and replace them with the goatse.cx guy's ass. Then I'll hunt you down and shoot you.

How do you do that?

Also, I can't check into hotmail with the site anymore- outlook express is configured to get the adress' mail, but I can't log into the site.

I would take you up on your offer, but the 5MB I have with my ISP are just fine, thank you. The only thing that would tempt me would be a more practical URL - http://members.optushome.com.au/mcdexx/ is a bit unwieldy...

Hey, you could think about hosting the regs page... I really must get around to doing some more work on that...

That's because hotmail has gone the way of the "not so free anymore"

$19.95 a month for email account access. I can still log in from my Outlook, but if you log into the webpage..you get sign up ads and they don't go away.

Why don't you give Brad the twelve dollars? Or better yet, buy and ad banner and tell the world something worthwhile, like 'Soylent Green is People'.

Great, NOW you tell me!

oh, and by the way, "FTP" has a slightly different cultural meaning over here, I'm sure andy made a hilarious comic about the mix up between the two, but the search facility seems to be a bit bugged at the moment, so I can't find that gem for you.

350 MB? 350 MB?! 350 MfuckingB?!!

If you don't mind me asking, how much does that cost per month? And do they let you do anything funky, like CGI or ASP or databases?

Even though I do have webspace, it's only available to me while I'm

a) In School
b) Not using it for things like naked pictures of andy's maw (unless I were able to call it an art project)

and

c) holding no more than a grand total of 2MB which includes campus e-mail and any school projects requiring the use of the server

So yeah, I would like a nice little webspace, Santa Gabe.

Speaking of hosting, I just registered www.artworksaudio.com and I'm looking for the whole fucking bag of cookies for web hosting. CGI, Secure Socket Layer CC Orders, Catalogue, php, everything. I would also like to NOT get my ass nutslapped every time I cut them a check. any ideas?

I've switched hosts several times. The one I originally had was no frills, decent amount of space and decently priced. They folded. I was at a friend's company for a while 'cause he was hosting me for free, then when he went down the tubes I switched to www.hostway.com which wasn't bad.

I really wanted to play with MySQL databases and PHP, however, and they charged extra for both. So once again I headed out on a search for better hosting and tracked down the current folks.

www.hostrocket.com

350 MB of space; 15 GB txfr a month; unlimited POP mail accounts, autoresponders & aliases. PHP, 10 MySQL databases, CGI-BIN, Real Streaming, Stats, Unlimited FTP accts, Telnet access, subdomains...

All for $14.95 a month. And that's if you're paying month to month. If you want to pay a year in advance it's only $11.95, and two years is $9.95.

I'm gonna hang with them for a few months and see what I think. If I decide to stay I'll probably foot at least a year's worth up front.

So far they've been pretty good. I've only contact tech support twice, and both times have gotten pretty speedy responses. The only thing I think is a little odd is the way their web based control panel is set up. It's very detailed, but once you get into a particular subset and do what you want, it doesn't have any backward links. ie if you brought up the control panel, clicked FTP Accts, then added an account it would end up on some sort of verification page; 'Your account has now been added.' Those pages should have links back to the FTP Accts menu in case you need to do another of whatever it was you just did, but you're pretty much at a dead end. You have to either hit your back button or go back to the front of the control panel and start over.

Other than minor beefs like that, it's pretty good.

Setup is $30, though. It is, however, instant. You can start uploading stuff within a minute of finishing the registration. That's pretty handy.

The best I could do is www.woodenbadger.com/dexx, which isn't much better. I do have a spare domain lying around, though. I bought megalith.org a while back and never did anything with it. I'm not sure where it's pointing.

As for the SC members page, I'd be happy to take it.

I cant give brad the money because I dont have a credit card, and for the postage to canada will cost more than I can afford to give him.
