When I was a senior in college, my RA would write fictional stories for the college newspaper whose titles were borrowed from songs by Yes. In general, many Yes songs have strange titles, and using them may be useful for sparking creativity. I thought of waiting until CC 90125 to do this contest, but I may be dead then, and I might not win CC 90124 even if I am alive. So let's do it now.

Here are the rules:

1. The title must be the same as or recognizably based on the title of a song by Yes. Titles of song parts are acceptible, but covers of other people's songs do not count. It must be an original Yes song. An album title counts only if it is also a song title. As far as I'm concerned, Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman, Howe also counts as Yes.

2. The strip may not be otherwise Yes-related.

3. The title should have something to do with the content of the strip.

4. Avoid running gags commonly used at Stripcreator.com. such as catch phrases, Tobor cornholing, donkey sodomy, etc.

And just to level the playing field against the person who has won more comics contests than anyone else:

5. Except for the title, which may be a pun, the strip should not have any puns in it. This rule is for everyone, not just kaufman.

If you are unfamiliar with Yes or know no titles of Yes songs, you can review the Yes discography at YesWorld. Follow the Gallery link to the discography.

Series and multiple entries are both welcome.

Judging should be sometime Sunday night after Alias. That's in the X-Files time slot for those of you who still watch that show. For those of you who aren't on Eastern Standard Time, I mean sometime after 10:00 PM EST.

Damn, until then my comic was going to cosist of YESterday once more, YESterday, Only YESterday and so on, back to the drawing board.

Who's Yes?

I work in an office of roughly four hundred people. Most read stripcreator and the forums regularly. A good portion of them also have stripcreator accounts. Of all the people at the office, using a poll sent out by email, I have these results, in descending order.

"Does Yes suck or what?"

78 "Yes is not my idea of quality entertainment"

44 "I would rather my firstborn child be brutally sodomized by Tobor than be subjected to Yes!"
(Don't feel bad, a similar study concerning teletubbies with the exact same answer as above had almost the same results)

33 "Who?"

12 "I stopped listening to yes when I stopped smoking pot"

3 "Yes ROCKS!"

Additionally, the 2nd and 4th answers were added by other people in the office as this was passed along, the feedback was so enormous I had to add them.

It appears that the general opinion in this office is that Yes DOES in fact suck.

Sorry guys, the statistics have spoken.

nope... not a pile of lies... I work for an outsource company that does tech support for earthlink. We have two huge floors and 90% of the people here are Earthlink. I guess I could be described as a quasi-management figure here.

We get bored easy here and have a T1 to surf with Draconis gregb, i think there's like ten others or so

Who's Yes?

No, the Who is not Yes. Yes is one of the most legendary of progressive rock groups. It's also one of the longest lasting. It was founded around 35 years ago and is still around. Yes has probably influenced progressive rock more than any other band has. More details can be found through the YesWorld link I put in the first message.

Here's a curious bit of Yes trivia few may know. The first video to ever appear on MTV, "Video Killed the Radio Star," was done by a two-man rock group, the Buggles, whose members both joined Yes for one album. One of them was later a founding member of Asia and is currently the only original member left in that band.

What will I do now? I seem to be stuck with dozens of albums by a group that sucks. If only I had known this twenty years ago, when I first started to listen to Yes. I could have saved myself so much money. I sure hope Asia doesn't suck too. That would just be too much for me to take.

First, my dodgy entries...

617826178361786

It wasn't until after I had saved that last one that "Almost Famous" was a movie soundtrack they contributed to, not an actual song title. Oh well...

After those ones, I decided to have a go at a series. Here it is...

6178861790617916179361794

For those who didn't notice, the pre-orgasmic exclamations in the first panel of the last strip are made up of four Yes song titles, no extra words. I was proud of that little detail. Detracting from that was the song title "Awaken" staring me in the face a moment after saving the first strip. Oh well... again...

Just so you know. I think this is one of the most retarded cc themes I've ever seen. There are too many rules to make it rightly funny. I hope you also remember to take off points from all of the many people who obviosly broke one of your way too stupid rules. I know I have about no right to say anything, but I'm not going to be some subjective little wimp anymore.

You just have to say to yourself, "Yes, I can do it. Yes, I can do it. Yes, yes, yes, I can do it. Yes I can. Yes, yes, yes." Remember, without hope you cannot start the day. You just have to release, release your creativity.

If I had any stupid rules, I would just disqualify entries for breaking them. I don't judge on a point basis.

Actually, I have to thank FPD for thinking of this topic, because I discovered that excellent "Magnification" album in the course of my research. I was never much into Yes, but substituting the orchestra for the keyboards makes them sound completely different.

what I mean is that I'm not going to suck up and kiss ass anymore. I won't pay attention to any limitations set on me by much of any1. I've been watching these "unlocking Your Potential" tapes and theyt are full of crap and I do believe they rubbed it on me. Damn I hate it when that happens.maybe thats why my life sucks so much.........

Oh and your rules just sorta counter each other, and it can be a little confusing. So I guess the rules aren't as stupid.... Its the maker of the rules.... well whatever. I know my comic shits on ice so i'm not expecting anything. Espesially after all this crap I'm dishing back at you.

I think I'm gonna go shut off thoses tapes now......
