Having your strips make some sense would be a good start.

What KvK said...

And please, for the love of all that is holy, stop using the yellow narration boxes.

Okay, here's my honest advice. You're new to this. Your first few strips are just going to be you playing around with the system, seeing what you can do. We don't want to see these strips.

Once you've established what you can do with the site, you should then think in terms of funny. Read your strips over before hitting 'save'. If you're not happy with the strip, don't save it. There are too many crap strips out there.

And, before you go posting strips to the forums, think whether or not they're going to appeal to others. The folks here are a friendly bunch, and will give credit where credit's due, but if you ask what we think of a really bad strip, someone's going to dis it hard.

Go with your instincts. You might end up doing something genuinely original if you follow your own sense of humor. JMO. Now the overlords can bawk that
I don't do anything orignal myself but at least I
am making comics that I think are funny...

Yeah, Kramer's right, you should just try and find what you're good at for the first little while. I found that I'm not as good at a quick set up and a punchline in three panels but better at a long, drawn out series containing maybe one or two jokes.

I suggest you enter the Comic Competitions because there some blowhard will dictate what you can and cannot do and then instead of someone instantly telling you that your comics are good or bad, you'll find yourself sitting up until 5am because the person running the contest is on the other side of the world and you're so sure that your comic will be the winner, then, when the results come in, you don't even get an honourable mention and you end up rocking back and forth in a dark corner somewhere cursing that Canadian bastard who won instead.

or so I've heard.

That reminds me, I've got to get judging.

Bastard, eh? ;)
