Bugger humility. I think all of us must have at least one strip which we think is pretty good, and I would like to invite all of you to post one or more strips of your own which you are reasonably proud of.

Should make an interesting counterpoint to the Festival of the Unfunny thread, anyway. I am going to stick my neck out and volunteer this one, which I think is my best strip, despite the typo in the title...

I love that comic, despite the title which came from mental block. It's such a FarSide type comic, though, that I wondered if I had subconsciously stolen it from Gary Larson, but when I checked the whopping 3 farside books I own, I couldn't find it. So, if there is a farside comic like it, then I think the indications are obvious: In the future, Gary Larson must have invented a time machine and stolen my idea. Bastard.

I did the Relationship Test series because I think it's a good gag, and it's a timeless approach to humour. The Honeymooners, The Battling Bickersons, (radio), along with more modern sitcoms all use the tenacity of relationships for a gag. That being said, this one always makes me laugh. Following DexX's logic, which, actually, I tend to agree with, (Your worst stuff seems funny to others), this probably blows. I like it. Go figure.

It's our own little gallery opening. But it's too hard to pick just one.

Gee, I'd love to participate, but everything I've ever made is amazingly inconsequential.

I have lots that I like, but this one is one of the first I was really proud of. It's not rated very high by "score," though, proving what utter morons must be rating comics on this site.

It seems like I can rarely be funny if I'm not doing self-referential humor. This one I like, and actually got a high rating...

Why does it seem the unfunny comics are funnier than the funny ones? =)
I don't know, but my comic scores would back it up. The ones of mine I like the best are ranked lower than the ones I like the least. But all in all, I've basically given up on the scoring system. If you look at the top ten pages of scores, there's maybe a sum total of 10 comics that didn't get written in January. So either January was a VERY funny month, or the scoring system is flawed, or perfect as time goes to infinity. Either way, I now just go through the links of comics I find funny to find other funny comics.

I think we've all pretty much given up on the scoring system. But since we're on the topic, how did various people go about cheating?

I recall some time a few months back I was going through the comics and voting and I hit the back button, which brought me right back to the last comic I'd voted on. So I voted on it again. And again. And again. I jumped over and checked periodically, and sure enough, it was rising steadily.

So I know it's possible to raise a comic's score. But I was under the impression that the only was to vote on your own comic was if it just happened to pass by you while you were voting. But if you look at the first page, you'll notice a certain person has 10 comics there, which seems a little much. I figure most of the top comics are either very old and funny, old and really funny, or elevated by people cheating. So the people that cheated numerous times... Did they just sit in front of their computer, mindlessly paging through comics until they hit their own? Or was there some more dastardly way to do it?

Like slipping Johnny $50 bills on the sly.

Rinse, lather, refresh. Or, even better:

while (1) {
/bin/wget http://www.lowpass.net/stripcreator/?ID=0000&vote=10
}

But I never tried that. And I'm not responsible for the fact that Showtime at the Pluto, part 2 has found a permanent home at #9. Though, while we're on the self-congratulating thread, I do think it's one of my best.

Once I'd verified that cheating was possible, I e-mailed Johnny to suggest a number of measures to prevent it -- like checking the URL for question marks, making sure the referring page was on-site, and so on. I believe he said he would implement some of them. I haven't really bothered to check since then. Especially since, as you said, no one takes scores seriously anymore. Which wouldn't bother me so much, except that they still look real. And I'm still convinced averages would be a better scoring method, as long as you can't pick which comics you get to vote on. Even if a comic shot to #1 after its first vote, the second would even it out, and the third, and so on.

I completely agree with that. Another option would be to have a threshold number passed before a comic is scored. Like say, after a comic has been voted on 10 times, then those 10 scores are averaged and the comic is given a score. This would prevent the top of the scoring list always being filled with new comics that had only been voted on once or twice.

My favorite one is from the 12th comic contest. I find it strangely fun to try and rhyme long passages. The actual one lowpass kept is screwed up so I fixed it and made it a .jpg http://www.quicktel.com/users/archamian/quitch2.jpg

I also like my own comics best when the art and backgrounds look like they go together, such as this one. 9273

I found it rather odd that one of my comics, http://www.lowpass.net/stripcreator/view.php?ID=7887 ranks fairly well, yet it was a mistake. Too bad we cannot edit our comics. At least it taught me to be careful with the 'enter' button, and not to put a title in until after the comic was finished.
