It's only funny because "This-was-the-worst-lunch-yet Man" is appearanly ripping a big juicy fart as he makes his appearance.

okay, how else might you depict a "swoosh" onto the scene?

and anyway, you know how cafeteria food is...

Oh I knew he was swooshing onto the scene. I just couldn't help but think of it as flatulent, given the cafeteria setting.

I'm curious... what exactly are The-worst-lunch-yet man's powers? Usually the name of a superhero reflects the abilities he's endowed with. If someone is complaining about a robbery, they call on Superman, not Theftman.

I never understood why superman bothered with petty crimes such as bank robberies etc. Surely that would to the local police force getting lax, since they could always rely on old Supes to help. He should be concentrating on supervillain-related felonies and large-scale crimes that the normal police would be unable to handle.

I think Superman's ability to move fast and his already legendary influence on the city created a mystique that few low-class criminals decided to break, and those were easy pickings. The instances were already rare when he had to deal with Lex Luthor, Doomsday, other super-villains and natural disasters.

He was probably bored.

I think the whoosh/flatulence was a deliberate visual double-entendre. Lara is not of thine order.

I totally agree, especially with the "double entendre" bit.

That's what made it so funny at the time- His powers are either useless, or malevolent. He can make it the Worst Lunch Yet? Gee, that's welcome. I was worried it was only funny if you knew the stoner kids who proclaimed it to be the worst lunch yet, man.

actually, while I remembered your farting snowman/York peppermint patty strip, I was hoping that it be read as a swoosh from above rather than a fart. as a female, I'm above mere potty humor...

(yeah, right!)
