What the fuck????? OK, I admit I was being pretty stupid, but you want me to fucking die? The last time somebody said that I almost did kill myself. I've been suicidal since I was 5 years old. Please can you tell me you don't really want me to die, and it was a joke, and ok I know you don't like me, but I really do get upset about things like this. I'm kind of insecure.

Incidentally, what he was referring to was the standard way to deal with trolls. A troll is a person who joins a web community and posts inflammatory garbage to upset people and provoke a negative reaction. The proven method of dealing with them is to ignore them. Since they are looking for attention and trying to provoke reactions in people, failing to react to them is boring, and they usually wander off. This has been described metaphorically in many ways, such as "not feeding the trolls", "starving the trolls", and has been likened to depriving a fire of air so that it dies.

He thought you were a troll (God only knows how he got that impression) and was suggesting that, if we all ignore you, you will go away. I also get the impression that the quote was a pop reference, but it isn't one I recognise.

He told me he wanted me to die. That's what I heard. I'm manic depressive and sometimes you do just tend you get wound up and irrational, it is actually a medical condition, sorry you guys couldn't have known. And evil_d, I'm sure I won't get told to die every day, I'm sure you are all nice people, but if I do that's when I'll leave.

Yes I have said it before, I really can get extremely upset when people say things like that. Anyyway, an apology would have been easy to write, but that would question the 'manliness' of the person who wrote it. This is exactly what I was saying. He who dares to have a different opinion from the 'superiors' is always wrong and is always an idiot. You're acting like labrats. The comic was racist. It's a fact. You can at least admit it.

The men here are "manly" enough to apologise when they think they have gone a bit too far, or done something worth apologising over. An apology is easy to write, far too easy really. An apology is much harder to mean. From what I have noticed, these guys generally mean their apologies and don't just pay them lip service, by typing those 5 letters.

I don't know if that is always true. How long have you been lurking here to see if that is the case?

I've disagreed with people here, and there have been many "arguments" about things ranging from logic to philosophy to merits of various music styles. People disagree all the time. People also have a right to their opinion. Although someone may call you or me an idiot for having such an opinion, you decide how you feel about that and whether you take it personally or not.

If a police officer was always offended every time by the insults they received, then they'd change jobs. Sometimes it is important to grow a thick skin and be less sensitive. The world is a nasty place, and you have to learn how to deal with it.

No, it isn't a fact. Its your opinion. You have the right to have your opinion, as do all the other users of this forum. You have the right to try and change people's minds as they have the right to try and change yours.
