I know that donkey sodomy is a topic close to all our hearts (or possibly groins). Sorry it isn't actually funny, but I was hard-pressed to set up a story that could be easily continued.

Gabe, you're up next. A funny one would be nice. :)

DexX stands up on a podium in the garb of an Englih borading school headmaster, looking at a clipboard.

Casey...?

Casey...?

Has anybody seen Casey?

Hmmm... If John Casey doesn't post a continuation of thr serial in the next seven hours, he will miss his turn.

Headmaster DexX consults his clipboard.

Is Lay Dij here? Hmm? Oh, sorry, that's LadyJ. Well, if Casey doesn't turn up, you had better take your turn. Tch tch tch, you lot are so irresponsible.

I also don't understand... but then I'm not particularly amused, either. I dunno... I just think that coarseness for the sake of coarseness loses its sheen after a while. I much prefer clever coarseness, like kaufman's strip.

Then, lady, you are in the wrong place. This is a special, magical place where rude catch phrases like "manboobs," "cornhole," and now (probably) "gigantic chicken dick" are not only found amusing, but copied ad nauseum and brought to a near religious status by the board regulars.

Although I'm a big fan of running gags, the humor around here tends to be more like what I call high-school humor (shock humor and insults). Not to say it's all not funny, though.

You're welcome to take your manboob-loving cornhole-yearning gigantic chicken dick and move out of my guest room. Sedition will not be stomached, Mr. Christian. :(

Or as an alternative: Lighten up. This is a comic board. It's a sad world when people have to take themselves seriously on a comic strip site. We're not solving any of life's great mysteries, just having a little fun.

There are some strips that make it worthwhile. When the time comes that the energy expended separating the wheat from the chaff is not worth the value of the wheat, then I'll stop coming around.

Yeah... some of my earlier ones were not so well thought-out. I'd like to think they got better.

And yes, some of the running gags are really funny... Tobor still cracks me up. But it's the Tobor requesting milkduds that I remember... not the countless other attempts at being "funny" with Tobor.

*shrug* Take from my critique what you will. Throughout all of this, I've only stated this as my opinion. My likes and dislikes vary from others'. If all the group wants is donkey sodomy, that's fine for the group. Personally, I aspire to more, and better appreciate the comics of others who also aspire to more.

We're all just trying to be funny. Nobody's aspiring to anything other than that. You are not your comic strip.

quote:

After about 150 comics or so, I stopped caring what other people thought of my strips and am instead just having fun. So my "physician heal thyself" comment was not a return insult at the quality of your strips, in fact I haven't read many of them. It was rather an attempt to address someone who was being overly self-important and too good for the room. That's my opinion. I even wrote a comic dealing with that theme. With no donkey sodomy.

quote:

In words I am sure to use in at least a couple of comics to come, and hold as close to my heart as "gigantic chicken dick": This thing's bigger than donkey sodomy.

I need a certain amount of lowbrow after spending a long day being brilliant at work. That's why I'm here. If I wanted highbrow humor, I would've gone to highbrow.net instead.

I don't think I'm "too good for the room". It's probably my failing that I do not have the capacity to discern the difference between 40,000 buttfucking cartoons. Kudos to all of you for being able to find enjoyment in all the little nuances that must exist therein.

It's also probably my fault that I could not read all of that into the three words "Physician heal thyself", and still in fact do not see how those words can mean what you claim. I guess I'm just not as smart as you are, ObiJo.

I do think, however, that I have the capacity to do some degree of coarse humor while also adding cleverness. That's the only way I could have been welcomed so thoroughly during my debut on the boards a couple of weeks ago, and feel as if my principles have not been compromised, which I do.

...and as for taking myself seriously, *shrug* sure I do. That doesn't preclude the ability to have fun and be funny... it just means I have the self-respect not to represent myself as an idiot, if I can help it.

But ObiJo, if you really believe I care what you think of me, you're deluded. I care to varying degrees about the opinions of those I respect, and you've never been in that set. That's not meant to antagonize you, it's simply a statement of fact.

Ouch. I wasn't trying to imply that donkey-sodomy isn't funny! (Well, it's not funny when you keep falling off the donkey and you lose your erection... but I digress.) I also didn't say that the humor around here isn't, well, humorous.

I do regret that a lot of the running gags around here are beaten to death with a sledge-hammer before they go away, but hey.
