eh...

I dont really like the term "emo". The only person I can REALLY call emo, is that whiny sissy chris (I think his name is) otherwise known as Dashboard Confessional.

People try to call Thursday an "emo" band. I read an interview with them, and they were like "If one more person calls us EMO, we are gonna cut throats." (or something along those lines). After that they said "We are a hardcore band, and have always been a hardcore band." I agree. They are maybe melodic hardcore, but nonetheless, hardcore. They are also my favorite band, but that is irrelevant.

Unknown, what sort of underground music do you listen to? I would be interested in knowing.

I listened to a radio documentary on what "emo" was and all I think I understood was is if you are "emo" you would probably go and write a song about how people don't understand you rather than slit throats. Am I right?

Personally I can't stand pidgeon-holeing music either, but if you can make fun of something using a pirate I'm all for it.

I call him "annoying." ;)
I don't really have anything against most of the bands that people peg as "emo." Promise Ring had some good songs, Thursday isn't bad, etc. It's just that the Emo Pirate is so much fun to write for!

Post-punk (PiL, Raincoats, Gang of Four) and C86 (Razorcuts, Talulah Gosh, Wedding Present) mostly, although my collection ranges from Beethoven to Black Flag to Aztec Camera to Afghan Whigs. It depends on my mood.
