I still think this is a valid request. Hey Brad, any plans to allow users to edit their comics? You could change the timestamp if you want to preserve the historical accuracy of everything posted to the site.

Here's the thing about editing comics:

When you delete comics, it doesn't actually delete them, it just makes them invisible. I eventually can them after they've been sitting around for a long time.

This is so that if anyone hacks your account, you can email me within a couple of weeks and go "Ahh! My stupid roommate/girlfriend/boyfriend/coworker/parent deleted all my comics! I'll give you a billion dollars to get them back! They were so brilliant!" Then I can just undelete them and earn a cool billion dollars.

Editing would be permanent. I don't want to get into dealing with saving multiple copies of a comic strip for every time you make a change. If your account was hacked, people could ransack your comics and no matter the amount of money you offered me, I couldn't get them back.

I guess it basically depends on whether it's worth the risk to have a destructive feature kicking around. Both for the users and for me as the guy who will get complained at every time some retarded and totally preventable thing goes wrong.

So far nobody has complained about their comics having been maliciously deleted, but I assume it's just a matter of time.

If you're going to update the time stamp anyway, why not just delete the comic and do it over again? It doesn't take very long. The only reason for editing would be to fix comics in a series that you didn't want to get out of order.

As someone who doesn't give out his password, I'd be just fine taking that risk. I want editing! 8)

No, no no no no no.

Editing is teh suck!

If your comic is wrong, delete it, or if you haven't donated anything, then redo it and stop complaining. Recently I posted a series as a CC entry, and for some reason one of the comics had screwed up in the saving process, so I had to delete it and redo it. Sure, I would have been a whole lot happier if I could have just edited it, but then, if any Joe Comic could edit when he wanted, the Comic Contests would become a joke. People changing their entry constantly, even copying other people's and retaining the original time-stamp.

We talked about this before, and how you could maybe make a feature so that once the comic has been posted to the forums, you would be unable to edit it, but that's pointless programming for a feature that really isn't that important.

Kajun and Brad are right. The disadvantages of a comic-editing facility far outweigh the few advantages. Everything's fine just the way it is.
