Bit of a spoiler for the three others in my group, but here is my CD listing. I called it Songs from the South, and filled it with 22 tracks from Australian performers (and a couple of New Zealanders). Here's the cover art I knocked together at 2am the other night. (Don't worry about your bandwidth - it looks huge, but it's only 30KB.)

I was wondering if you would remember that conversation. Artemis is probably going to hear the most new stuff on my CD - redcurrant is British, and they get a lot more Oz music than the US, and you, Bunner, just hear a lot more obscure music than most people. The fact that you know a lot of Chisel says a lot about that.

Incidentally, Bunner (plus AS and red, if you're reading) how many of those songs and/or bands do you know?

...and I don't really know enough. My right ear was ringing for nearly 48 hours after seeing The Butterfly Effect live. They'll be on my next effort, I think...

I left off a lot of good bands and songs. There have been more than twenty-two excellent Aussie bands and solo acts. These ones were all off my own CD collection - I didn't have to crack open the MP3 directory. As it was, I still had about four tracks more than I could fit, and didn't go near my Triple J Hottest 100 CDs (full of brilliant indy and mainstream music - I highly recommend them to everybody) or my large collection of eighties mixed CDs.

So, no Frenzal Rhomb, 28 Days, Motorace, Cruel Sea, Models, AC/DC, Jenny Morris, Grinspoon, or a huge stack of others. Pity - I left off some truly great songs. All those previously mentioned acts are getting on Volume #2, though. If I hadn't left it so late, I probably would have made it a double CD - a disc of oldies and a disc of newies.

Of course I know silverchair, Men At Work and Midnight Oil. I also love The Living End. I've heard of Crowded House and Regurgitator

But all of the tracks, even by bands I've heard of, are alien to me. Which is a good thing.

I just received Bunner's CD today, and will be giving it a listen in a few.

I'll post my thoughts on all my groups CD's eventually, but it usually takes me quite a few listens for me to get a real idea of what I really enjoy. Some of my most favorite songs are ones that played when I was too lazy or occupied to skip past them as I usually would, and I would get a good long listen. I guess it makes sense, since I really like to get into the lyrics and try to figure them out.

ArtemisStrong March 5, 2003 7:45 AM	Wait a minute... what's all this talk about CD's? I thought this was a "tape" swap. All I have is a cheesy little yellow walkman with a broken rewind button and those lousy little earpieces that you have to shove in your audial canal like a hearing aid. Is that why I couldn't get redcurrant or bunner's tapes to fit?

Not a very erudite expression, but sincere nonetheless. Okay, enough exclamation points for me for awhile (I'm gonna' have such a hangover in the morning).

Oh, well... now that I've blown the surprise, any of the four on my second round list can request SC.com original character art if you like. I still have most of it. I'm just hoping it isn't being tossed in the bin when it arrives, that's all.

My bad. Don't mind me. Now I need to start thinking about my second CD... More South from the South, or something different? Hmmm...
