Since my winning comic was a rip-off... er, tribute to one of Kaufman's entries, I thought it only fitting that this contest be about him rather than a topic that actually interests me (ooh - snap!) Your comic can actually be about anything you like, but Dr. K must put in an appearance as himself. "Big Pun-isher" may grace one panel or all three, it makes no difference.

Now, Brainiac has been around here since rope was invented. But if you still need more biographical info about the man, the myth, or the legend that is Kaufman, you can find it here. As you can see, this site is a gold-mine of comic hooks such as "knowledge discovery and data mining" and the always riveting "analysis of learning strategies". But there is also information about his less geeky pursuits (such as Bridge and "orienteering" -- stop that snickering!)

Only new entries will be considered. Kaufman is encouraged to enter, but receives no bonus points for actually being himself. Judging will be in three days.

Hey, kaufman!

Why, of all your hobbies and interests and such that you list on that page itsclark linked, do you not list stripcreator? I hope you're not ashamed of us. (You probably should be, but I hope you're not.)

Anyway, here's my recycled entry. New ones to follow as they come to me.

The real Kaufman knows the difference between subatomic particles. Bruce Jenner didn't eat any protons, he didn't eat any muons, he certainly didn't eat any tachyons, and he never ate the gravitons. However, he did eat up the kathlons.

The Hard Sell was classic. It should rise from the grave to win this contest.

It's that time.
I'm only going to list my 5 favorites. If yours isn't on this list, that is because it was number 6. Honest!

The following comic appealed not only to my ego, but to my woefully flawed sense of scale.
The only problem is that ever since it was posted, Andy Dougan won't stop calling me.
135746

This next comic had intrigue, drama, and suspense!
Kaufman should really consider letting you punch up his website a little.
135943

This next effort is one of several shameless attempts by Professor Funnypants to appeal to my sense of pity.
Nearly worked, too.
136196

Here's one that has a nice beat and you can dance to it.
I hadn't planned to go with an onslaught of puns but this one nearly wore down my resolve.
135757

This final comic made me feel dirty and ashamed in a very special way.
It's also thoughtful and insightful, for those of you who get off on that sort of thing instead.
135994

So congratulations to MMYERS. Honestly, it was a tough choice, with more fine comics than I have time to comment on. You can all take pride in ect. and so on.

Why? Does it need to learn how to box? [/puns]

I was going to do a strip where "jes_lawson meets kaufman" but
a. The scary thing is I've read his research and I might actually use it one day!
b. The punchline of this proposed strip was crap and involved us in a bar, submitting 300 pages of bad puns to the ACM.

Hot dog!
This is the acceptance speech where I should say everything that I didn't in the first one. First off, everyone is too funny on this site and make my days of data entry go much faster and better. Second, i don't know Kaufman but I feel much closer to him now that i know secret details from his life. Third, i'll try to make up a better contest than I did last time.

Many thanks,
Matt
