On their way to West Africa, the merchants follow the wrong end of the Niger River and end up on the ocean.
Uh-oh. I think I read the map upside-down. now we're at the ocean.
And by the way, I think the wagon broke. I'll go fix it, while you get food.
Dude, I think that guy is gonna eat us!
Too bad for you, you're bigger and fatter.
I just hope he doesn't rip off my claws and-

Two Muslim merchants are in the desert on their way to the Trans-Sahara Trade Route to North Africa to trade salt for gold.
Okay we're in the middle of the Saharan Desert. Which way to North Africa?
Um... actually, I have no idea... I think I was reading the map upside-down.
Really? Darn. So let's follow the sun. Okay, Amin?
Oookay, Payam. i'm not sure that will help, considering that the Sahara desert is the biggest desert in the world.
Hey look! We had more slabs of salt then I thought we had! This salt looks like it came fresh from the salt mine, which is found in the Sahara.

Alright, I just asked this merchant I met awhile ago, we are right above the savanna, we should be able to get to the savanna by today
Wow, being in a camel caravan is hard work, if we didn't have our slaves that are prisoners of war I don't know what we would do.
Finally, the savanna or otherwise called the grasslands.
Yeah, it is where the "camel met the canoe" so as soon as we can find the Niger river, we can sail to Timbuktu.
Hey look it is the Niger River! Let's get our canoes out
Alright, let's go!

Okay, we are about halfway to Timbuktu on the Niger River.
So once we are there we trade salt for gold, trade other various goods for more salt and go to the rainforest for more gold and to see the gold mines.
We are finally in Timbuktu, lets go trade for gold!
IT'S SO HOT IN TIMBUKTU!!! IT'S 95 DEGREES WHICH IS THE HOTTEST IS GETS, EVEN IN JANUARY THE LOWEST TEMPERATURE IT IS STILL 71 DEGREES!!!
While trading for gold the merchants are trying to convert people to Islam.
So we will trade this much salt for this much gold okay? Also you should convert to Islam, we invented numbers like that 28 I put on your shirt.
Okay for the trade and I think i will convert to Islam, this is a pretty cool number!

The two merchants have just left Timbuktu and are off the West Africa
We're are totally lost.
Jeez, we get lost a lot. Amin let's pray to Allah and go in a random direction and hope we get to West Africa.
Now we can look at the gold mines and trade for gold!
HEY LOOK IT IS THE RAINFOREST!!! WE GOT REALLY LUCKY!
Well, it's the rainforest of West Africa that is found on the coast of West Africa.
How rainforest-tastic!

Alright, if I remember the map correctly, we're right above the savanna, so we should be able to get to the savanna by tomorrow. The camel caravans should be fast enough.
Wow, being in a camel caravan is hard work. If we didn't have our slaves that are prisoners of war lading the camels, I don't know what we would do.

"Rainforest-tastic"? Ookay... anyway, keep a lookout on any gold mines and any cities, Payam.
Sure. But why do WE have to look for them? Couldn't we ask someone in the city?
Nope. These gold mines are only known to few people of the city. I've heard that these mines have LOADS of gold.
Yeah, I guess it's too valuable to tell outsiders where they're located.
Suddenly...
*gasp*
Is that a gold mine?

Is that really a gold mine?
Wow, it actually is! Let's go check it out!
After getting all the gold from the gold mine, Amin and Payam decide to go deeper in the mine, thinking that there is more gold.
Hey, tell the camel caravans to hold our gold that we collected and to follow us.
Okay, and then, let's go deeper in the mine to get even MORE gold.
Soon, Payam and Amin begin their journey down the mines, taking gold... and getting lost... again.
Uh-oh... we're lost. AGAIN.
Let's just keep going.

Nah, let's try asking the leader of the camel caravans.
Okay, I'll go ask now.
Hey, camel caravan leader. Do you happen to know where we are?
No. And thanks for this suit. I say follow any animal tracks.
Hm... if we were to follow these tracks, we could find a way out.
Good. Thanks, I'll go talk to Payam now.

So what did he say?
Just follow him. By the way do you know anything about Sundiata? I heard people talking about him in Timbuktu.
Well, he was the founder of the Kingdom of Mali. most of it's wealth was based on the trans-Sahara gold trade.
Yeah... I'm not surprised I picked up this info. Timbuktu is now a center of learning.
Hey Amin, I found an exit.
Good! Let's go!

Here we are.
Wow! We're actually here! Thanks!
As Payam and Amin walk out, they are slightly shocked...
I'm afraid you took us to the wrong place.
Oops. Sorry.
Nope. Wrong again.
Darn!

Here we are.
Yes!
Hey, Amin. I just realized... we never went to that city that we were looking for in the rainforest!
That's okay. We got all we needed at the gold mines.
And in the end...
Payam and Amin completed the trade-route... sort of.
