What is a linear equation?
Mr.W , how do you write a linear equation?
Well Joe , a linear equation is a equation of a line.Well , in linear equations you must have constants and variables. A constant could be 2 , or c and a variable could be x or y.
How do you write them ?
Okay, but how do you write them?
There are many types of linear equations like slope-intercept form, or standard form. For example , y=2x+3 is an example of slope intercept form. It is the most common form of linear equations.
Taking a part the equation.
Okay..
The 2x part of the equation is the slope of the line. The slope is the steepness or the incline of the line. The 3 in the equation is the y-intercept. It is where the line crosses the y-axis.

What is slope?
But Mr.W how do you find the slope of a line or the y-intercept?
Well to find slope on a graph, you must calculate the rise over run.
How to find slope.
Well how do you do that?
Find one point on the graph that has exact coordinates like 1,9 or 5,3. Then find the closest point that also has exact corrdinates. Count how many times going up or down to get level with both points
How to find slope.
Wow, this is a lot.
Then count how many times going to the left or the right to get to the other point. For example,if one point was 1,1 and your other point was 2,2,you would go up one and right one, making the slope 1/1

How to find a positive slope.
Are all slopes positive?
No. To get a positive slope, the rise must go up and the run goes to the right, or the rise must go down and the rise must go to the left.
How to find a negative slope.
Well what about a negative slope?
To get a negative slope, the rise must go up and the run go to the left, or the rise must go down and the run go to the right.
Summary
So a linear equation is a equation for a line. To find the slope, you must find the rise over run. To find the y-intercept, you find what point the line crosses the y-axis at? That's so simple !
Exactly !
