Excuse me Mr.scientist. i have a couple of questions to ask. I'm going to ask first about nuclear stability.
Yes. I am here to help.
If the number of protons and neutrons cluster over a range of neutrons-protons ratio, is that nuclear stablility.
Yes. In addition, atoms having a low atomic number have a stable nuclei ratio of 1:1.
Wow! thanks. Also, when the atomic number increases so does the ratio.
That is correct, This is explained by the relationship between the nuclear and electrosatic forces between protons.

Did you know that an atom is made of protons, neutrons and electrons?
Yes i do. Isn't the mass a whole number just like the number of protons there would be?
Actually no. For example 4/2H atom haa a mass of 4.002 062amu.
Why?
Because the difference between the mass of an atom and the sum of the masses of its protons, neutrons and electrons is the mass defect.
This is to much for my brain to handle. I have to take notes.

By any chance do you know the symbol used for ionizing radiation?
Yes.what resources are you using?
My chemistry textbook but, i can't find it.
alright. I will draw it out.
Oh that"s cool.
Yes, this makes communication and recording data a lot faster. Now you draw it.

I have some information on 3 types of emissions that are interesting. Would you like me to share?
Sure. But I already know your going to talk about alpha. beta and gamma emissions. I'm to smart.
Indeed i am. Alpha particles are helium nuclei and have a charge 2+. Alpha emission is restricted to heavy nuclei. Both the number of protons and neutrons must reduce to increase stability.
Okay.Thats not so interesting. What about beta and gamma emissions?
The neutron-proton ratio is too large so to decrease the number of neutrons. the neutron is converted to a proton and an electron.
Boring! Well iI know gamma emission deals with high energy electromagnetic waves.Gamma rays are produced when nuclear particles have energy level changes.

The process of nuclear fission and fusion is very difficult for me to understand, can you be of assistance?
Well I can but I don't want to bore you.
Nope, i must pay attention. Nuclear fission and fusion seem exciting.
Okay. During nuclear fission the nucleus of a heavy atom is slpit into 2 or more lighter nuclei. The products are nuclei and nucleons.Fission is the primary power source for nuclear powered reactors.
Fusion is the opposite. The light atoms combined to make heavier atoms. Fusin is the primary source that fuels our sun.
Wow. They are both very important energy providers. I do know this, both fission and fusion release enormous amounts of heat and electrical energy.

Man made elements are artificial transmutations.
Transuranium elements right?
Transuranium elemements are elements with more than 92 protons in their nuclei.
I'm very impressed. You know a lot. Did you know that they are radioactice elements?
No I didn't know that. Anything else?
17 artificially prepared tranuranium elements have been named. 6 have been reported but not confirmed.

Finally, how does radiometric dating work?
I prefer the term radioactive dating. This is the process in which the age of an object is determined based on how many radioactive nucleides that are present.
Does the half-life have effect the age?
The approximate age is based on the fact that radioactive substances decay with a known half life. So it helps determine the age not effect.
Thank you. I do appreciate all your help today. I know i will pass my test on nuclear radiation.
No problem I'm here to help. Goodluck and try your best.
