I hate being last.
Why?
Because it makes me feel bad, like I’m in trouble.
You’re not in trouble.
Are you sure?
Yes, being last just means that you must wait patiently and get your turn after others.

I hate being last in the line.
You can’t be first all the time; that’s not fair to everyone.
What?
Everybody takes a turn being last.
Are you sure?
Yes, being last just means that you must wait patiently and get your turn after others.

I don’t like being last in line.
Why not?
Because last is the worst place.
That’s not true. Last is sometimes the very best place.
What?
Being last in the line lets you see what’s going on in the front of you. Just wait patiently and get a turn.

I don’t like being last in line.
Why not, some great things happen last?
Like what?
Well, frosting goes on the cake last, and then you eat it!
OK, what else?
Well, the best person who can play an instrument goes last on the program.

I really don’t understand why I can’t win ALL THE TIME.
Well, if you won all the time no one would play with you.
What do you mean?
Well, other people want to win too, and if they never win they’ll stop playing with you.
OK, so I’ll let them win sometimes.
Well, you don’t let someone win, you just do your best, and see what happens that’s what makes playing games fun.

I really don’t understand why I can’t win ALL THE TIME.
Well, we’re all better at something than someone else.
What do you mean?
Well, they’ll always be someone stronger, bigger, or a little faster than each of us.
Really?
Yes, we can’t make other people do things or keep them from doing things like winning. We should say congratulations to the winner, that’s being a good sport.

I really don’t understand why I can’t win ALL THE TIME.
Well, we’re all winners.
What do you mean?
Well, as long as you do your best, you’re ALWAYS A WINNER!
Really?
Yes, WINNERS know that, and they learn how to play games better by losing. When we lose, we learn more rules and more ways to help us the next time we play.

I really don’t understand why I can’t win ALL THE TIME.
Nobody wins all the time.
What do you mean?
Games are meant to be fun ways to work together and learn.
Are you sure?
Yes, it’s not whether or not you win, what’s really important is HOW YOU PLAY THE GAME! When we follow the rules and play fair, we’re all WINNERS!

I really want to be friends with Jonathan.
That’s good. Do you know how to be a friend?
I laughed at Jonathan and told him the wrong thing to do.
That’s not good. That hurt his feelings, and he won’t trust you.
I didn’t know that.
Friends don’t tell each other the wrong things, and they don’t laugh at each other.

I really like someone in my class.
That’s good. What’s the person’s name?
Her name is Elyese.
Why do you like her?
Because she’s smart.
It’s great to like her. Just remember not to touch or hug her. Always stay arms length apart.

How do I become a good friend to someone?
You can listen to them, help them when they need help, and let them make their own choices.
What do you mean let them make their own choices?
Don’t tell your friend what to do, what to say, or who to sit by.
I really want to tell my friends what to do.
That’s not a good idea. You’re not respecting them to make their own choices and you won’t have friends if you do that.

Words are powerful – they can hurt people’s feelings.
What do you mean?
We should always use good words to help and not words that hurt.
What are some words that hurt people?
Words like loser, stupid, idiot, or a cheater are not good words to use with others.
I’ll use words like good job, thanks, and please instead of loser, stupid, or idiot.

If you want to have a friend, be a friend.
What do you mean?
Friends don’t laugh at each other’s mistakes; they don’t hurt each other, and they don’t grab or pull on each other.
I know that.
I’m glad you know that; just remember that friends treat each other kindly, and they don’t hurt each other with their actions or words.
I’ll use good words and actions with my friends.
