I don't know exactly what transpired since I wasn't logged in at the time and I've only gotten a little info from others that were there, but I'd like to think that nothing happened that you didn't deserve. I can tell you that I'm more than happy to welcome outsiders. I certainly don't make an effort to pounce on those I don't know. Same goes for people that show up in the forums. New doesn't mean troll. New doesn't mean bad or annoying.
And I'm fairly certain that most of the other regulars that hang out in the forums and IRC are in the same mindset as me. Some of us may be a trifle harsher than others, but all in all we're a pretty friendly and fun loving group.
But with anything, you can't just waltz in somewhere and act like you own the place. It's like being at a party somewhere. Would you walk up to a group of people you've never seen before, say "S'up faggitz!?!" and give one of them a noogie? Of course you wouldn't. You'd sidle up to the edge of the group, listen to the conversation for a while, jump into the conversation when they start talking about a movie you just saw or a band you like, and soon everything would be copacetic.
So if you waltz into an IRC channel and start blathering randomly, don't expect people to welcome you with open arms.
We're also pretty forgiving. At least most of us are. C'mon back into IRC, apologize for being a tool and we'll all have a beer together and make fun of wirthling's microscopic man meat.
Or don't. Depends on what kind of person you are. A decent one would realize that maybe he was in the wrong and things got miscommunicated and give it another try. A worthless tool would flame me for sticking my nose in where it doesn't belong and talking about stuff I don't know anything about. Which are you?
