Yes, that is awesome, one of the few non-english songs on the album too.

Emperor is quite good. Their earlier work is grim and raw, while their later work is a beautiful balance of grim vocals and clean sounds.

And DragonXero, do you honestly consider Opeth to be near-breaking out? I mean, the singer kind of grunts about the harmony between lepers while the band throws out harmonic-scale riffs in 5/4 time and then switch to acoustic guitars. I don't think they'll get much recognition by anyone who isn't swedish or a heavy metal fan.

and I do like other bands besides that: Lamb of God, Behemoth, Decide, Slayer, Dimmu, Moonspell, and a mess of local bands.

Once I spent a weekend looping the Rolling Stones "Get off my Cloud" over and over again in attempt that was apparently to drive myself insane. Amazingly, I'm not totally sick of that song yet. So yeah, I really like that song.

See, Opeth have found a loophole in the "Sold-out" system. They can put out DVD's, sell half a million records, and play big venues, but the fact that they are a death metal band alone makes sure that they will never recieve radio-play(other than Dr. Insano), and due to their song length they will never have a music video.

A winner is Opeth.

I doubt Opeth could ever become truly metal, but as it is, they have tons of sales, and some of the highest attendance in true metal.
Just because you sell out doesn't mean you've sold out ;)

Also, I disagree with the branding of "death metal" for them. Too melodic and artsy for death metal. I'd say doom/black.

I mean, most black metal bands tend to sound like chipmunks in need of exorcisms. Mikåel Åkerfeldt sounds more like an ogre.

Anyway, have you heard "A Fair Judgement" on Deliverance? I think it's great.

Transylvanian Hunger. Half the album was written by Varg, and was largely NSBM crap. That's sad because musically, the album was awesome.

The Buffalo band? God, that name brings back memories of my college rock days playing in stank-ass tiny clubs near Buff State at 2 in the morning on a Tuesday night, then a few hours later going to school and falling asleep in Mass Communication Theory. I never shared a stage with ookla, but their songs were played in close proximity to mine on the WBNY Local Show a few times.
