What I'm trying to say is, the racial division presented by most rap, especially gangsta rap, is carved there by the artists who perform it. The object of the genre seems to be to make the most money before you are yesterday's papers. Hardly inherently artistic as a discipline or an ideal. As far as racism in rap, I mixed a gig for De La Soul. Killer act. When the PA's low end on one whole side took a dump and deprived them of the necessary "phat bass" to put their stuff over, one of the openers grabbed the mic and asserted that I was purposely keeping the bass level low to somehow keep them from performing their work because I was a racist. My scurrying about like a hamster on crack to try and repair the problem apparently was just a pose.
The truth is, most rap, especially gangsta rap, is nothing more than mysogynist braggadocio, threats posed in rhyme, a glorification of cheap and dangerous behaviour, and a huge "fuck you, yo!" to any sensibility whatsoever. And the truth is, everybody with a shred of sense knows damn well that all that requires is:
a): A microphone.
b): The I.Q. and social skills of pigshit.
c): A drum machine with perhaps a snippet of somebody else's work looping behind it.
To quote another shit-stirrer, Johhy Rotten: Ah, ha ha! Ever get the feeling you've been cheated?"
