Any Discworld book with Rincewind is genius. Actually, ALL Discworld books are genius. Read the Night Watch Series. The Chronology is Guards, Guards!, Men At Arms, Feet of Clay, Jingo, The Fifth Elephant, and Night Watch.

Commander Vimes makes more sense than any other hero ever written about in a book.

For example, Vimes's view on detectives:

Just because a man's wearing ratty clothes, has a tattoo and has bits of grout and cement on his clothes doesn't mean he's a mason who did a tour of service in the navy and has recently fallen on hard times; he could very well be a small business owner who put on some old clothes to build a barbeque pit in his back yard and got the tattoo when he was drunk and seventeen (which are often synonymous terms).

It was such a waste of everyone’s time and money that even the Tokyo stadium’s rape robots apologized– something they were programmed specifically never to do.

I've always liked the Death books the most. Some of my favorite books in the series are in there. Soul Music, Reaper Man, Hogfather...

I'd say I like the Rincewind books second most, and then the City Watch books. All of these are pretty much equally awesome. The Witch books are good, but I often find I can't really identify with them. Like Maskerade. That one's beyond me. I really like Carpe Jugulum though. And Witches Abroad, and Wyrd Sisters and Equal Rites. Fuck me, they're all great too.

I really find myself enjoying the unclassifiable weird books in the series most often, though. Pyramids, Moving Pictures, Small Gods, Monstrous Regiment...all classic.

I'd say Moving Pictures and Wyrd Sisters are my favourites, followed closely by the masterful original, The Colour of Magic.

Damnit, BigFrank, now you have me looking on e-bay for a French version of The Little Prince.

Actually, in all seriousness, I'm reading lots of free eBooks from http://etext.lib.virginia.edu/ebooks.

I'm reading The Wizard of Oz now. It's some seriously messed up shit -- not at all like the movie. Just the story of how the tin woodsman came to be is enough to scar children for life.

I recently read most of the Tarzan books they had.

- Tarzan of the Apes
- The Return of Tarzan
- The Beasts of Tarzan
- The Son of Tarzan
- Tarzan and the Jewels of Opar
- The Jungle Tales of Tarzan

Violent! Racist! Plotless! But fun. Burroughs had a tendency to get tho thirds through a book, realize it was too short, and introduce a new villain or situation to keep the action going.

...Trot and Cap'n Bill were free from anxiety and care. Button-Bright never worried about anything. The Scarecrow, not being able to sleep, looked out of the window and tried to count the stars.
