Just because one history gives credit to one group that discovered zero doesn't mean that the Myans discovering it independently should be overlooked. Besides, from what I understand of the estimates, Myans had the concept down ages before the Arabs.

I was under the impression that the Mayans has no written language or numbers, and their tax collectors used an amazingly accurate accounting system that involved differently-coloured strings tied in knots. No, I'm not kidding. Apparently the Mayan tax-collectors were among the most feared in history, and they never made a mistake.

Uh... yeah, anyway - since they didn't have written numerals, they could not have had a numeral for zero. It is certainly possible that they understood the concept of zero as a number, though. I don't know.

Actually, I just dug around in Google, and this was apparently the Incas, not the Mayans.

Yeah. They floated over and coughed up filth on the Incans and Myans until they nearly died off.

Then some German bastards came by to explore years later and destroyed most of the Myan literature to try and keep the world from knowing how advanced they were. They didn't like the idea of savages being that far ahead of their grandfathers.
