You know, if crickets decide to enter their comic, I bet it will be a runaway winner.

But fear CC 180 then!

I don't know what I'm doing either

The contest is now over: CC179 has returned from wherever the hell it was, drunk, out of money, and smelling of creosote.

Strange idea for a CC? Not really - I write software for navigational systems and frequently come across dots on the map that are no more than block-sized storm-battered rocks covered in seagull guano, thousands miles from anywhere. And there are people there. Crazy, crazy people (usually scientists) who do hilarious and dangerous things naked with creosote at -20 in a Force 8 gale

Well it would be easier to go through the comics I didn't like than the ones that I did, the standard was amazing. What I was really looking for was a feeling of isolation, desperation and the sort of boredom that makes people do strange but hilarious things. Ever see Dark Star? Despite this, I am glad I made only one *real* rule.

So on to the Honourable Mentions:

Honourable Mentions:

MaxPayne - the first entrant, notable for lazily using nothing but bonus phrases, but still making me laugh. Oh, and you also read the link for one of your strips, well done - you were the only one.

Kajun Firefly - I read this series ages ago and it still makes me smile today.

Aero God - For use of character, Banks references and the line "SHUT UP YOU! Never question my steamingly erectileable intelligence." coming from a small blue fish - hilarious! Best Newbie Strip I think.

Bargaintuan - Posh dinosaurs, I liked. I liked a lot.

punkrockskaboy - For a funny comic and the recipe for Cosmo's, thanks man. Runner-up strip

TheGovernor - I like your style, mate.

mmyers - For portrayal of a man so bored he is prepared to take the words of a song and shove them up his arse. Nice. Oh and Hooters Orbiting Space Station gave me a big laugh. I think in the future we may see things like that and hopefully I will live to be on that station.

umfumdisi - Best Banks references, setting and use of bonus features in a strip that was structured and funny. Bonus Award.

Non-compliant but still funny
UnknownEric - Borderline (Boston’s distant but not what I’d call remote, despite the lack of people in the strip)but still bloody funny.
Zegota - lots of non-compliant ones AFAICT but still sort of amused me.

RTFM
Even if you didn't get a mention your comic was still good. There was only one I didn't like at all and I think Kajun usually keeps a lighter, a paper bag and some excrement for this sort of comic. RTFM, ring-drinker...

So on to the top 3 individual strips:

My favourite strip of yours, sir, but the dual meaning of remote was made for you to exploit... And the Asiangirls strip was inspired. Very Yellow Submarine, if anyone remembers that scene where the Beatles get sucked into a vacuum.

Again, all of your entries were bloody brilliant without exception, and with absolutely no new effort at all! This one deserves to win a Comic Competition all of it's own.

But the newly discovered winner is: itsclark!

This had it all - remoteness, isolation, boredom and a punchline that really connected with my own sense of humour. I just hope kaufman is not too mad at you for ripping his idea off!

This was a tough decision, Scyess's strips were all of amazing quality, especially that one, and, and I wanted to let kaufman win purely on consistency, but in all good conscience I had to let the strip which made me laugh the most win.

Thank you all for participating: itsclark, Comic Competition 180 is all yours.

God, no! They say inspiration is the sincerest form of flattery, and it's hardly like a lot of my crap is original. I'm very happy to have been able to contribute to the winner (even if I finally do have some new rules to deploy someday).
